Leaving or lurking after the event?

So apparently this forum is no longer very active. And even less now that the event is over.
But why? Why being less active after the event?

I mean, yeah, sure, you can leave for a while. I sure did.
You can be more active on weekends and less on weekdays.
You can be more active during your holidays and less the rest of the year.
Whatever.
But why come for the event and then leave?

Or maybe people don't actually leave, they are just hiding in the darkness, lurking all around?
I mean, digging, creating avatars, but not actually in the forum.

Oh, spirits in the dark shadows, speak!!

And everyone else speak too, hehe.
Let's talk some nonsense and make up some theories.

I mean, I lurk year-round, even during the events. I think that's pretty normal though? Especially if a site isn't someone's main site that they play on. They just come and get the items from the events and then leave again. Lurking is probably what most people do though? I don't have any friends here so I only post when all the other lurkers come out.

Yeah, it's apparently very normal. But for me is confusing. And amusing.

So people get their event items (maybe play a bit with their avatar or with their pets?) and then leave.
Don't they even check the forums at all?
The buying/selling forum is extremely dead, and it would be a good place to get more items or earn more food...

Maybe I'm a chatterbox, but I do like when people stay for chatting.
And right now with the Candy Caravan visit I would have expected lurkers to chat more.
Which makes me wonder whether they are actually lurking or simply left for a while. Maybe check the site once a month or something.

Maybe. I like to post during the caravan but it's also hard if I haven't been chatting much and then I'm joining conversations I haven't participated in for months? But I think it's also the time of year where people are going back to school. Summer is over and so is free time. There are definitely just caravans that are less busy than others.

Yes, of course, that makes sense.
I'm very active now because I'm on holidays. Next month I won't be as much.

Let's say that the difference between "a little" and "a lot" seems easier to explain, than the difference between "nothing at all" and "a little".

I also find hard joining conversations.
But I was away for several years and managed to jump into some of them without being bitten, so I think it's safe to assume everyone else could easily try some chat threads and nobody would behead them

Ah...holidays. I wish I could experience one myself~ :P *wistful sigh*

Yeah, I think the people who have stuck with this site are for the most part a good community and when I do flit into conversations, it's always quite pleasant. Who knows though. Probably the idea of continuing to be social is scarier than the reality of it. I'm the kind of introvert who can have a wonderful day not talking to a single soul!

I can absolutely relate.

Still I remain curious.
I will never fully understand people, even less online than in real life.
Because there are plenty of no-social activities you can do in a forum based game. Such as posting in games, for example.

I don't think I leave after events. I just.. forget, sometimes. I do try to log on once every day for the dailies though. When it comes to the forums, I think it's pretty chill. I personally like the chaotic atmosphere of some other sites so I tend to be more active in those forums instead. Not that being chill is bad, I just like my daily dose of excitement when I'm on the internet lol

Hmmm, I used to like that chaotic and nonstop forum activity, like, when I was in college. I didn't think many sites were like that anymore though. Honestly, even more than the chatter, what used to keep me active on sites was roleplays.

So there are other sites with very active forums?
I thought forums were kinda going out of fashion everywhere, many teenagers do not even know what they are anymore.

I've never been a fan of hectic, but some more activity really revigorices.
And you feel a bit less akward posting, because if there is only two people posting it's like interrupting a conversation or something.
