I do the same as Rubie, primarily use GoodRead to keep track of "to be read" books, sometimes my first post in here. I used to use my library's website sometimes too, but I haven't been going to the library lately, so I stopped using that.

Hm, I think I tried signing up for Goodreads a long time ago but found it too frustrating to figure out how to use properly.

I have a bunch of lists of books that were recommended to me at one point or another that I casually look for in used book stores, but it's gotten very long and I want to organize it properly somehow.

Hm.

Maybe I should look at Goodreads again?

Are there any good guides on how to set that up and use it properly?

Please PM me if you can help!

Yes, I'd definitely recommend giving it another shot! You can keep track of everything you want to read, keep track of everything you've read, keep track of your reading goal for each year, rate books, see books that are similar to the books you like, enter giveaways for books, read reviews of books, create categories that you can put books into, etc. This is me: https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/5339113-pengaween

I do like GoodReads, specially reading other people's reviews.
I do write mine sometimes, when I feel like I have something to add.
And it's a nice way to keep track of what you've read all along a year, you can see your stats and all that stuff.
If you have friends there, you can see what they are reading and what they think of those books.
It's cool.

I used to have a list on goodreads that I would always pull up when I went into a bookstore to see if I can't find some of the books on it. I found that very helpful, but a lot of the times I wouldn't find the book for who knows why, but it was still helpful so I wouldn't accidentally purchase two of the same books. (I now take a picture of my bookshelves before I go book shopping if I am just going to pick up anything that sounds interesting and not on a mission for a certain book.)

here's my goodreads profile too if you join!

I googled "how to use goodreads" and there are some results indeed. but there's an alternative to goodreads, I think storygraph..? maybe it's more intuitive. haven't checked it out yet but why not.

I'm also among those who use goodreads as a to-read list mostly. I used to read reviews too and write them but kind of lost interest. within the to-read list, I make sure to separate the books I own, the books I don't and the books I can get from a library (I have shelves for those), so that I can quickly check if I already own a book, and if I can borrow it instead of buying

and I do have a goodreads-shelf for the books I want to read next but I don't think it's working for me at all. like all plans

speaking of which I can't come up with a challenge for this year. likely because challenging has not done anything in the previous years so my mind is just not interested in the game..?

I have a really bad memory, so I've been writing reviews on GoodReads just for my own benefit to remind myself why I did or didn't like things.

Sanssouci, I sent you a friend request at GR. If that's ok with you, accept it :mccute:

My husband uses GR just the same way as you.
Actually some of his reviews include mere facts about the book, so he can remember what exactly the book was about.

Popping in to just update my reading progress, which is minimal. I actually read a few pages of that book I've been reading for two years now, lol. And I'm close to finishing a chapter. Cross your fingers for me :mcargh:
