Nope. Not my kind of thing.

I don't really watch reading vlogs lol. I've been watching cross stitching videos (cuz I totally listen to them while I do other things) and a few have a segment at the end that discuss what books they have read. I actually got a few from there that are on my future to get as ebooks.

I had to look up what a vlog was, so I'm useless that way.

I put down 'Bridge at Remagen' again in favor of "The Bards of Bone Plain" because I was in the mood for poetry disguised as a novel, and Patricia McKillip is always very lyrical in her use of language.

Poetry is stronger than me.

Apparently my son does not like poetry either.
I thought kids loved poetry, but mine does not.
Maybe he inherited the taste xD

Ah, can't help with reading vlogs. I actually try to avoid them, because I like to create my own opinion on a read without much bias. I instead read reviews with the best and the worst ratings of a book and from there I decide whether I might like it or not.

I like poetry, but I usually don't understand it on the first read because of all the inversions and such. It's hard to read. Syntax can get fucked in poetry, lol.

I read GoodReads reviews, but usually of books I have already read. Just to compare opinions.
I rarely use them as a reference to choose which books I want to read.
My list is already long enough as it is

I usually don't care about other people's opinions on what to read unless it's someone I trust with their tastes. Which I don't know anyone else irl that reads besides my mom. Our taste in books are way different. I'm actually surprised that little section at the end of the flosstubes I watch has influenced me because they read out of the genre I like.

The only thing that influence me on goodreads is if a book is rated under 3, then I question if it's going to be good. Another reason to go to the library (so I don't feel like I wasted money on it)

Sometimes even books with high scores suck

I tend to value the review itself more than the score.
Because some people enjoy things that I just don't.

That is VERY true. Sometimes I will go look at what the other books in the series is rated, because you weed out all of the ones who don't like it in the first book usually.

I remember one series I read a few years ago was nitpicked so hard in the first book because many people clearly DID NOT read it and was taking the summary really racist. If they got through the first book they would know it wasn't racist. It was demons lmao. Like one of the few times I read the reviews and that was what it was.

That's also tricky.
Because if you are reading the third book in a series it means you like the author, the writing style, the setting, the characters. You may not like the plot of that book, but there are many things that you like for sure - otherwise you would not read as far as the third book!


Also books which are aimed to a younger audience tend to have ratings I don't agree with.
Sometimes readers will say "this is the best book ever!" and I'll think it's just a piece of crap xD
