I fell off my reading wagon :mcgloom: I might not hit the goal of 10 books this year. But at least I hit the first goal :mclaugh:

@Rubie:
Yeah, do! It's a different approach and kinda nice imho.
Also, one of my categories was actually "books which already have been sitting in my to-read list for too long" XD

@Sanssouci:
Looking at the bright side, huh? Rest well, I hope you feel better soon!
And in the meantime enjoy your reading :mccool:

@mem:
Everything counts, right?
It's cool doing one's best, but it's still something to do for pleasure. Where is the fun in taking a reading challenge as an obligation? :mcwink:

I finished The Sapphire Widow. I liked it at first. Didn't like it by the time I finished it. I expected it to be predictable, and it was. But I expected it to be predictable in a logical and very organic sort of way. But instead it was predictable in a stupid way. Basically, the main character and the bad guy both made a bunch of choices that I thought were bizarre and unrelatable to achieve a certain ending when they could have gotten to that exact same ending in a much better way.

Oh, it's annoying when that happens.
You can't help thinking "gosh, I could have written it better... and I am no writer, sir!" :mcmeh:

That happens to me kinda often. Also with series plots.
I suppose authors/creators are trying to do something unique, and they don't notice they are failing at it xD

I started reading The Game and the Governess by Kate Noble. This is another one that I am expecting to be predictable but hopefully in a logical and comforting sort of way. I'm looking to relax, not to think too hard or get stressed out!

(I just started it, so no real spoilers here, in fact I think the blurb on the back gives more away) It's about an earl and his secretary. The earl thinks he's amazing with women because of his sunny disposition and the secretary is not so lucky with women because he's a downer. The secretary says it's the difference in their fortune and rank, not their disposition. So the two make a bet. They will switch places with the earl pretending to be the secretary and the secretary pretending to be the earl. They will go out of town where no one knows them. Then they will see if the earl (while pretending to be the secretary) is still able to woo a respectable woman. They go out of town and are immediately invited to stay at a nice house (because the family wants an earl to stay with them and to introduce an earl to all their unmarried female connections). What neither man knows is that the family's governess blames the earl for her father's bad investments which is what led to her needing to take the job as a governess to begin with.

So you can already imagine exactly where it will go, and as long as it gets there logically, I will be happy!

I looked it up and she's also the writer of the Lizzie Bennet diaries series! I loved that one!

I finished The Game and the Governess. I picked it up thinking it would be mediocre, but I liked it.

So you would recommend it? How is her writing style?
