I am not very good at describing things, but I did like it, and I do plan to keep it to maybe reread someday. I would say that I recommend it to people who like historical romance with just a little bit of sex. I was happy with the pacing and the ending (and how it got to the ending!). It's book #1, but it can easily be a standalone. But I liked it enough that I would like to read #2. I checked hoopla and libby for it, and one didn't have it and the other had it in audiobook which I don't care for, so I put in a request on paperbackswap.

Oh this is perfect for me! I recently bought so many books from Indigo! I have read 2/6 I get time to read only one chapter a night right now!

I was behind on my reading goal for most of the year, but I have caught up now. And I'm almost done with Heartwood by Anne Miller Downes.

I like it so far, but it's also a little sad, and I've only got about 60 pages left, so I'm wondering if it will have a sad ending or if it can turn around and get happy in that amount of time...

Yes, I am.
I've managed to touch the topics I wanted (this thread challenge) and regarding quantity I'm doing quite well (3 ahead of schedule on GR).

But (oh, there is always a "but"!) I've been extremely irregular.
Lately I'm quite tired and also lazy, so I'm opting for entertaiment that does not require any thinking.
But when I feel better I'm reading A LOT.

I would prefer being more stead, but not bad anyway.

I finished Heartwood by Anne Miller Downes. I thought it was pretty good but nothing special. I just started The Handmaiden's Necklace by Kat Martin.

It was happy, but eh... Basically what I thought was going to happen did happen, which was something big and sad followed by something big and happy. But I thought they would do the big sad thing sooner, so then the reader would have more time to recover and enjoy the happy. But instead they kind of waited until the last minute. So the ending kind of went, "Big sad... time skip so the characters are all over it... big happy" all in like the last 15 pages.
