omg I love this - I would say a sandwich is anything "sandwiched" between bread... I wouldn't call a hotdog a sandwich though.

Don't worry. I've been wanting to do the same since the beginning of that topic.

Thus, if you consider that the first Sandwich was a human being, a human can also be considered a sandwich and maybe some of us are part sandwich.

No, no, that's cake.

Wait.

Layer cake has slabs of very sweet bread-like material with a filling in between.

Is cake a sandwich?

Hmmmmm

I raise the point that one cannot pick up a piece of cake the way one would a sandwich, as your hands would squish into the icing. Given the design so clearly prohibits you from eating it like a sandwich, I propose that cake is, in fact, not a sandwich.

How about a sponge cake? You can certainly pick it up and, while it does take some practice, majority of the filling stays inside.

One of my grandmothers talks about how *her* mother used to make something called a 'Sandwich loaf' for bridge parties...

You took a loaf of bread and sliced it horizontally instead of vertically, so you had maybe 4/5 long "slices" of bread the length of the whole loaf.
Then you mixed up different fillings.... maybe sliced avocados for one, and an egg salad for another, and an olive tapenade for another, and a layer of pesto for another, or whatever struck your fancy. You could stick with layers of different jams and whipped cream and lemon curd if you wanted it simple, and sweeter instead of savoury.

You'd create a layer-cakesque concoction, different filling on each level, then slice it vertically to serve on plates.

Each vertical slice would have a little bit of all the layers, but it would be flopped over sideways and you'd eat it with a fork like you would a cake.

(No, I don't understand why you would take a dish whose whole CONCEPT was "convenience" and then make it inconvenient. Bridge parties gotta bridge?)

Anyhow...

Is a slice of sandwich loaf a sandwich?

A hotdog is not a sandwich! Neither is a choco-taco

Just feels so wrong to call those things a sandwich, and don't even get me started on burritos, a burrito is not a sandwich. Its a burrito, it has it's own name for a reason

I am also a structure purist. I believe a sandwich is some food item between 2 sides of carbs. They can be any cards, but they have to cover only two sides.

Real talk for a moment: Can we Go back to that month that Pokemon Go was released. Everyone was so happy and the only people down my throat were old men at work who complained about a cell phone app kids were playing. Can we have that? Please.
