This has appeared recently in my Facebook recommendations, so I'm assuming they are running some sort of campaign. Have you ever heard of it?

For those who have never seen it, it's a deck of cards which follows the classic Hero's Journey model.
It's not like they are gonna teach you to write, but the deck provides a framework for stories which may be helpful.

I'm not a writer myself but this looks just so cute.
And I was wondering if anybody here (I know some of you do write!) have used it and what was their opinion about.

My issue with writing is never needing help with ideas or plots or formatting.
It is always with having enough time to get everything down.
And then enough patience to stick with a single one instead of doing a fast outline with some jotted notes with details of specific scenes and quickly moving on to capture the next notion before I forget, because I have about... maybe 600 pages of various story notions and plotlines and characters and histories of countries, etc, and only about 4 or 5 completed works.

So things like this deck would not be at all something I would reach for.

More like something I might create, to use up some of these notions I know I will never have time for.

I've never really written anything.
I think it's something I would like to do, but I never even sketch it.
It's just in my head, and I keep day-dreaming about an story, but I never put it down it words. I'm not sure I'm even able to do it.

But it's so cute I almost feel tempted to buy it!

My criteria for that sort of thing is simple:

1) Can I afford it? (Not just can I squeeze the money out somehow, but do I have enough in my "this-is-truly-extra" budget to afford it)
2) Will it help me out (or bring me joy) over a long period of time?
3) Will I regret it if I don't get it?

If the answer is yes on all three, I get it.

So.... if it's cute, and you can afford it, and you think it's something you will enjoy looking at even ten years from now, and you'd be sad if you missed your chance, then.... get it!

That's an smart criteria, I must say.
I never impulse buy, I tend to be an overthinker. I analize pros and cons.

In this case, yes, I can afford it.
I would not buy the physical version but the digital one, cause no way I would cover my walls with those cards.

I just don't know whether it would help me out.
I would not mind writing something, but I think my problem is not the lack of organization but the lack of focus.
You know, I day-dream so many stories I never write down, but when I have the time to write what I actually do is going to this forum or playing a game :|
So, no, I don't think there is any tool which would solve my issue.

And I definetely would not regret it if I don't get it. It's just something cute I can live without.

But anyway I wanted to hear if somebody here had used it, because it's cute :mccool:

Ha ha ha, fair enough.

It's also true that many of the things I buy, I buy knowing that I won't be using them for the originally-intended-purpose. I picked up a container of caramel popcorn two weeks ago knowing I would never eat the popcorn (I just put it in with the yard waste) because I wanted the large can it came in, which was the perfect size with the right kind of lid. Or the salt shaker I picked up at an estate sale last summer which is perfect to hold all the hat pins I inherited from my great-great aunt.
So just because you might not use the deck for its original purpose... if you like it enough and think you might use it in another fashion, it's also something to consider.

But yeah, if you wouldn't regret not buying it, it's the sort of thing that's more fun to enjoy vicariously. :)

I admit, there are a few times I've bought a gift for someone in the family not so much because I thought it would be perfect for them, but because it was something I couldn't justify getting for myself and thought getting it as a gift would be a good compromise.
Ha ha ha, so far it's worked out okay, they all really liked the gifts.

That's what my jusband calls a "bouncing gift"!
You buy it for someone, but it bounces back to you :mclaugh:

Oh, no, they didn't bounce, everyone kept their gifts! I just get to enjoy it vicariously when they tell me about how they used them!
