Honest question.
Cause I have an student now who is very embarrassed about her health issues - a car run over her two years ago, she's got health issues for the rest of her life, but when I try to bring up the matter she always dodges it.
Because the world is made for ablebodied and ableminded people. Disabled people, in any shape or form, are often outcast and ignored at the best of times. At the worst we're targeted for hate since we're very easy victims. Because most people ignore us. And lots of us are unable to do anything about it for many many different reasons.
We get tired of answering the same questions over and over. Of people not believing us or thinking that we're just over exaggerating. Or people blaming us for our illness. It's also very depressing having to tell people about your disability and then having to comfort them about it. Which I personally have had to do so many times.
It's incredibly difficult to sort out if someone is a safe person to talk to. Since even doctors and therapists and people who are supposed to help people like me treat us like we're not human.
AND often times if we're a little depressed about an issue or something people will often come along and go oh it could be worse. Yeah, it could in most cases. But our lives are often really difficult. We don't need ablebodied people coming around and telling us we're whining.
