I really hope we'll be able to add the avatar system and the shops soon so people can actually spend the food they are earning!

Yes, that's how it's planned. At least I couldn't think of any way to make it much different from the shops on avatar sites like Gaia, Zantarni or Roliana.
But I want to make the items cheaper than on Gaia as you don't earn as much food for posting here as you earn gold on Gaia.

Making food harder to get sounds like a good idea.
If you ever make a marketplace type thing, I will keep inflation down.
