You have hugged Hotarla!

Yeah I’ve said that before too actually. XD it’s not like I can’t translate, it’s like….I’m not sure what the English equivalent is? Like familial titles. The names for a Chinese family tree are literally like a huge question mark for me to translate into English lol. I remember, a few years ago, there was this hilarious video about two Chinese people listing out entire family tree and I was literally blown away by how many names there are. And I wouldn’t even know what half those names would be in English because the names in English would probably end up MUCH MUCH LONGER. Like “‘my uncle’s sister’s daughter’s husband” or some long af thing. But in CHINESE, there would be a TITLE lol. Or you would just call everyone “uncles or aunts” but not us lol.

Oh, man family trees in English are confusing uB
I get confused easily so this stuff really blows my mind.

I've actually noticed that English seems like it'd be hard to learn.
I speak it fluently and it's the only language I'm fluent in.
But I've noticed that...it's really annoying.
It's like "Here's some rules on English, but there's always exceptions to the rules so basically there's no rules because rules are consistently broken but you need to know the rules 8u"
There's so many words that are said one way, but a different word spelled similarly is pronounced completely different.
Like the word "stiff" is pronounced with an "st-if" but "stifle" is "st-eye-f"

Spanish family trees are... large.
You have your cousins/uncles/aunts. Then second-degree cousins/aunts/uncles.
And then all those relatives who you can't really pin down but you refer them as cousins/uncles/aunts anyway (because saying third-degree or fourth or fifth sounds a bit too unfamiliar).
If you marry, you will have pretty much all the relatives from your in-laws. So my husband's cousins/uncles/aunts are now mine too.

Want another funny Spanish saying?
"The more of a cousin, the closer you get." (Nope, it does not make any sense gramatically, that's the way it is.)
Because in small villages instead of saying "oh, no, we are just friends" you would really use as an excuse "well, he's my cousin" xD

English is an easy language imho, because grammar is quite simple.
Yeah, there are no proper pronunciation rules (the whole idea of people needing to learn to spell their own language is so amusing!) but I think it's not the biggest issue you may have when learning a language.

Yeah if I had to choose, I would say English is pretty straightforward compared to other languages. At the very least, they have an easy and recognizable alphabet and as long as you understand the bare basics, it’s pretty simple. Sometimes, the bare basics for other languages seems so much more complicated. XD

I would like to research my family tree. My mom said someone researched part of her side pretty far back.
I don't know much about my dad's side.
Never got to meet my grandpa or my great grandparents.
I didn't even know much about my grandma and I was in my early or mid 20s when she died.
At her funeral, my aunt told us about how when my grandma was a little girl, Nazis came to take her family member away.
My aunt said that my grandma ran up and kicked one of them.
From that I learned that I had a family member put into a concentration camp.
Aaaand I know my grandpa could sing, play guitar and had his own band.
He was a nice man that worried that people didn't like him.

That's all I know about my dad's side.
Don't even know what type of Native American blood we have.

I don't know, it still seems like English would be troublesome to learn. That's coming from someone who speaks English ._.
I can't imagine not knowing it and having to learn it xD

I sometimes want to do those ancestry things. Where you send in your DNA and they do a family tree thing. Sounds kinda cool.

I'd like to do that too. I've heard people say not to do it because of...some reason. Like paranoia reasons.

I do know that the government can access your DNA from such places and use it to solve crimes.
That's how they've solved some cold cases in recent years.
Say there's a Jane Doe who was murdered in 1975 and no one ever solved her identity.
It's possible to get a DNA sample from someone trying to learn their ancestry and find a link between them and the Jane Doe. Boom - identity found.

I once decided to figure out my family tree.
I have plenty of old papers from my dad's side so that was quite easy - just reading who married whom, and whose son was this or the other one.
My mom's was quite harder, because they did not keep certificates that old at home, and asking administrations about old documents is quite a hassle.

There are some interesting stories in my family tree.
Such as two sisters whose husbands were cousins. Both couples had children.
One of the women and one the men died, so the remaining two married between them (apparently this was quite a frequent practice, so none of them would be "alone" to raise their children) and had more children.
So the eldest "siblings" were actually cousins on maternal side and second-cousins on paternal side, and also half-siblings of the youngest ones.
o_O

Or more recently, my grandfather's youngest sister... who was not a sister at all!

I don't think those DNA tests are actually any interesting.
They can track statistical similarities so they may have quite accurate information regarding your genetics origin - but that's so farfetched imho.
What do I care where my ancestors were several thousands of years ago? While I would love to hear about two or three hundreds ago, genetics do not change fast enough to give that information.

And, sure, goverments may access such an information... if there is a lead that points there.
But I doubt they are combing all the DNA tests sites looking for matches which lead to solve old crimes.
So while useful I don't think it's so cool, they simply can prove now things to which they only had a suspicion.

I think checking DNA sounds cool though lol. Like what if I’m not completely Chinese and it shows in my DNA? XD I think it would be cool to have different racial markers in my DNA that I didn’t know of before lol.

From what I've been told, I'm German, Native American, and Mexican on my dad's side.
I'm Native American and Irish or Scottish on my mom's side.
However, I noticed a woman's name in the family tree archive that was German.
So I may be German on my mom's side too.

Amura, you reminded me of this video I saw recently about this woman checking out her family tree.
It turned out that her father was switched at birth with another baby.
The babies were given to the wrong parents ._.
So the whole time she was doing research, she was like "Why is my father short and everyone else tall? Why are his eyes blue when everyone else has brown eyes? This makes no sense!"
Then when she solved the problem, she got to meet her actual family and she was surprised to see a female relative that looked just like her u8

Yeah, I heard that the DNA results can actually...not be correct sometimes too.
Which is disappointing. I want to know about all my ancestors.
I want to know their names, what they looked like, how they lived, how they died...

I LOVE genetics. I also love Forensics. I think I've mentioned it before, but I find them so interesting.
I'll never forget this case where a young woman was found dead and they were able to find her killer because they both came from a small village and the killer had specific gene that only male members carried in that specific family.
I was so in awe that they were able to narrow it down like that.
They can also tell where someone grew up by the water they drank and also plants and bugs found on their bodies.

Look up GEDmatch if you ever get the chance. That's what they usually do when checking older cold cases.
They've been steadily solving cold cases since last year 8u
Since technology has come so far, it's easier to do stuff with DNA and they've solved cases people thought would never be solved.

I wish so bad that I had went to college for Forensics or even to be a serial killer profiler.
They can be so freaking accurate, it's scary.
