I'm New Guinea-Irish, don't hate Mika-san. I'm not white. (but I am pale) :u (jealous!) It's totally unfair when Asians or Thai people use theirs, they have cute honorifics.... But I still dislike them no matter what language. =p

Night, Aya-san!

Yeah, a lot of people shed tears because I'm always "busy." Well, I shouldn't say busy, but rather, I always have something I need to do, or would rather work on.

I'm not hating, but I'm aware that different cultures feel differently about these things. Since I've never heard of Asians disliking honorifics before, simply because we're used to it and were raised up that way, I could see how Caucasians, who don't really have it as much in their culture, would mind. Somehow, "Mr." and "ma'am" seem more stiff to me than what Thai people use, since a lot of us young ones refer to each other as brothers, or uncles, and the like.

Just a culture thing. My brothers always use "big brother" with my name when they're trying to get something from me, and my mom uses a really casual... uh, prefix, for my name (would've been insulting to use if it wasn't from close friends or family, but indifferent or even playful, otherwise.)

But inner family lingo doesn't count. X3 Every culture has that, just like when my little sister calls me sissy and I call her...well whatever I call her. But I was brought up to be polite, so things like honorifics scorn me. It's that burning sensation I hear when people say san, or senpai, or onee-chan(<-my friends would call me this frequently and I'd twitch) because it kills our names. And I like my name, if I get called something else frequently, I forget myself. I have a few Japanese and Chinese friends who dislike it too. But like I said, we usually dislike things because we're silly(punk thing! XD) Or we give each other new names based on our personalities. My roommate calls me bully... XD I call her kidz, but her name is Hui. We were thinking of renaming her Susan so she has an american name, cuz she likes the name Susan. (her teachers always butcher her name. =___=;)

We call people who aren't related to us "brother" stuff too, but I guess since I hear it most from my family, they were the first to come to mind. XD

I see nicknames as nicknames, and casual honorifics ("chan") as part of a nickname thing too. My friends and family have gone through a lot of nicknaming... but my friends and I are silly folk. XD

Nick names usually don't bother me much, but I don't really see the point, when someone uses a Japanese honorific when they talk about themselves (since it doesn't go with the culture.)

Well, I guess I can see why a person would call another "brother" outside of the family, but I swear to gawd if another friend calls me onee-chan, I'll freakin eat them. My ex-boyfriend's sister did it and I was astonished. Next time I'll be like, "I ain't your sister! That's offensive to black persons! Onomnomnomnomnom!" xD

XD That reminds me of that Jackie Chan movie...Rush Hour. He tried to be Black in one scene and it turned into a mess.

Lol. Yeah, I do like a lot of Jackie Chan movies. Have you seen Who Am I? The bad English in that movie cracks me up. That, and the clog fight scene. XD
