I think Hunger Games has violence. From how people describes it, they say it reminds them of Battle Royale, but it also reminds me of Togainu no Chi. Maybe you'd like it, Moi.

I don't read books about sex (though I think one of Anne Rice's books had sex in it...I just sorta skipped it), and I don't often read books about violence. Most of the books I read might happen to have a bit of violence in it, but it's not the theme of the book. Life of Pi, for example, was kinda too morbid in some scenes --it was an interesting read, but I couldn't the night I finished it. The book is very rich in description and vocabulary though, so you probably wouldn't want to read it; it doesn't go down easy, even for someone who reads regularly.

Watership Down is a thick book, but it's awesome. It's thought-provoking, and has its share of dark moments. It's about rabbits trying to find a new home (but even if it is about rabbits, it's not very cutesy.) One of the rabbits could predict the future --there's a lot of "rabbit folklore" and struggling for survival type themes in it. I really like it a lot. Well, even if you aren't interested in the book, you'd like the movie.

I already dislike the movie for The Hunger Games.
It was boring.

Oh, really? I never saw it myself, but most of the people I know who did liked it.

A lot of the fans say that the movies don't do it justice since there is a much darker undertone in the book that was never really shown in the movie because they made it a PG13 movie, which killed certain aspects that fans of the books liked.

Aha, most movies can't match up to the original. ^^;

I don't know.

I mean I liked Battle Royale and the concept of kids killing other kids.
But I really didn't like the movie at all, so I have to wonder if the book is worth reading.
There was way too much bullshit and talking.

Have you seen/read/liked Lord of the Flies? That has kids killing kids. I hate those kind of books because they're so absolutely depressing, dark, and morbid.

I like books with lots of character development, and adventures, and maybe a snippet of folklore or fantasy. :)

Well, how did you like that one? Did you know the author of the book also wrote Princess Bride? Talk about two completely different genres. XD

Ah, but many authors seem to be able to do that. It's just admirable.

Huh, I've not seen too many authors that do that to be honest. I think the only ones that I know of that did something like that is Anne McCaffery and Brian Jacques (if I spelled his name right >>; ).
