Wondering down a familiar road
Like a ghost, a remnant of the past
Wondering just where this path will go
And how long this feeling will last...

How long had the British had interests in India?
British economic interest in India began in 1600s, when the British East India Company set up trading posts at Bombay, madras and Calcutta.
How were they able to gain control over such a large territory?
By 1707, however, the Mughal Empire was collapsing. Dozens of small states, each headed by a ruler or maharajah, broke away from Mughal control. In 1757, Robert Clive led East India Company troops in a decisive victory over Indian forces allied with the French at the Battle of Plassey. From that time until 1858, the East India Company was the leading power in India
Why was it referred to as the “Jewel in the Crown” of the Empire?
British treasured India more for its potential than its actual profit, and India was a major supplier of raw materials. Its 300 million people were also a large potential market for British made goods. Then the British considered India the brightest “jewel in the crown,” the most valuable of all of Britain’s colonies.
What restrictions were place on India’s economy? Does this sound familiar to a previous situation in history that led to a revolt?
British policies called for India to produce raw materials for British manufacturing and to buy British goods. Indian competition with British goods was prohibited.
How powerful was the Indian Empire as a global force in trade? Provide examples.
1. British had a huge influence in global trading center, established a railroads in India transported raw products materials as tea, indigo, coffee, cotton, and jute. Also British shipped another crop, opium to China and exchanged with England. Trade crops were tied to international events, the Crimean War in the 1850s cut off the supply of Russian jute to Scottish jute mills. This boosted the raw jute from Bengal, India. Likewise, India increased cotton production during the Civil War in the United States cut off supplies of cotton for British textile mills.

What was the impact of colonialism on India? Again, list positive and negative effects.
One of the positive impacts in India of British Colonialism was that they got the world’s third largest railroad network which enabled India to develop a modern economy and brought unity to the regions. They also got modern roads, telephone and telegraph lines, dams, bridges, and irrigation canals enabled India to modernize. India’s sanitation and public health improved. Schools and colleges were founded and Literacy increased. British troops also ended local warfare. However there were some negative impacts in India of British Colonialism. British held a lot of political and economic power and British restricted Indian-owned industries. Cash crops caused a loss of self-sufficiency for many villagers as well as reducing food production and causing famines. The increased presence of missionaries and the racist attitude of most British officials threatened Indian life.
Why is the Sepoy mutiny considered important? What happened?
As a result of the mutiny, in 1858 the British government took direct command of India. To reward the many princes who had remained loyal to Britain, the British promised to respect all treaties the East India Company had made with them. They also promised that the Indian states that were still free would remain independent. Unofficially, however, Britain won greater and greater control of those states.
What were events or ideas inflamed nationalist feelings in India? What sorts of ideas and events create nationalism or nationalistic feelings?
Indians hated a system that made them second-class citizens in their own country. They were barred from top posts in the Indian Civil Service. Those who managed to get middle-level jobs were paid less than Europeans. This growing nationalism led to the founding of two nationalist groups, the Indian National Congress in 1885 and the Muslim League in 1906. The nationalists were further inflamed in 1905 by the partition of Bengal.

Umm, haha... XD;;

He walked back into ballroom and began to scan the area for the dark-haired boy but was unable to locate him. Spying his eldest brother nearby, he walked towards the grey-haired man who silently stared at his glass.

“Gwendel, have you seen Yuuri anywhere?” he asked, his emerald green eyes scanning
