It's not convenient for me.

I watch it on the computer, but when I'm on the computer, I draw.
So I need dub, which I usually don't like because I can't draw and read at the same time.
Also I'm too embarrassed to watch anime on tv >>

I watch it on the tv, with my bf or by myself. I usually buy manga I like. I would have to go out and buy it or wait for it to show up. If I ordered it online.

I only watch anime on tv when I'm alone, I prefer to read the manga myself, but that doesn't always work for me (I have limited space, so I'd rather read it online or on my ereader (though that's hardly ever possible, though I wish it were more available) and only buy the hardcopies of my most favourite manga, but they take up sooooo much space :mcsweat: )

And yeah. If I buy any, I have no choice but to buy them online (there are no stores selling manga withing a 25 mile radius, it takes me an hour to get to the closest store that sells them and even then it's only in French) and hope they reach me within a month (last time I got lucky, it only took 25 days... Yaaay...

People comment on the anime I'm watching because I like it in Japanese.
They're like "What the hell did he say!?" or "Okay...."
And it irritates me.

I don't have space for the manga I already have so I don't buy them anymore.

There's stores here that sell manga but usually they don't have a good variety or they only have a few volumes or are missing some.

@Moi - That is pretty rude of them. I would tell them to mind their own business.

I had a tv in my room when I lived with my parents..so I didn't get disturbed. Still even when I did watch tv in the living room I usually wasn't bothered.

I'm sorry to hear that m o i
I personally hate dubs, I never liked them before and after studying Japanese I dislike them even more. They change a lot of what is being said and often lose some of the content of the anime.
I don't judge, but I understand how people ruin it by being so judgemental about watching anime. It's the same for me. It took my parents a while, but as of two years back there's no longer any comments from them, so I'm good at home so long as there's no visitors. I showed my parents an anime (one with an adult story) and how difficult the language is (even in the english subs) so now they allow me to watch anime in order to keep up with my Japanese (since I've now graduated from the Japanology department of university).

The other people I know still judge me for it and I'm the black sheep of the family for 'being weird' ("can you imagine? I like real books, writing and a language like japanese... That girl is strange...")

I don't mind so much since I know that my parents and grandparents couldn't care less (as well as a handful of cousins and two aunts), so the sting of the rest of the family is a bit less. It's still no fun at family parties though...
(I come from a very large family, so being halfignored or looked at weird is no fun. Even less if you consider that the small children somehow always flock to me and then their parents end up watching me all the time and they have this very discontented, judging look in their eyes. I don't like it at all. they make me feel trapped)

I don't hate dubs but I don't like them much just because the voice acting is usually pretty bad. There is some I do actually prefer the english dub..like Dragon ball Z.

That's so sad that you get treated so unfairly, Vineda. It's pretty dumb of them too. You could be out doing drugs but oh no you watch anime at home...the horror! Hide yo kids!

Eh. I'm used to it. It's the 'traditional' mentality that survives here. Smoking, partying till you drop and drinking is acceptable, drugs are debatable, stepping outside of the boundaries of what's 'usual' is strange and therefore unwanted behaviour.
Liking books, anime, not dressing in very revealing outfits because you don't feel at ease (even if fashion dictates it), not caring if someone is non-straight or if someone has a foreign background. Those kinds of things are not really done much around here.

I always was the odd duck out, so it doesn't matter that much anymore, but I just really don't like family parties anymore because of that mentality...
I'm glad my parents get out more and don't have that mentality (they travelled outside of the country and don't care that much either. As long as I'm happy and not on drugs they're cool)

Where do you live? They seem pretty backwards there.

I don't like family get-together either. Well I just don't like being around people much anyways. At least your parents seem more tolerant.
