hahaha i packed light to california cause i wanted to buy stuff. :P i went to the japantowns in both san francisco and san jose and bought a bunch of stuff lol so yeah i had plenty of room in my suitcase cause i planned ahead!!

when i move to california and we hang out, lets just go to bookstores :P lol

so, heres the thing. I was re-reading the lord of the rings with my best friend. however, i finished the fellowship ages ago and shes still on it. so I couldn't continue without her.

honestly, i have an awful habit of re-reading!! but, i decided to read The Book Thief which was super good and i cried forever and thought about it days after I finished. I am still thinking about it. ahhh. but after that, I was gonna read this other book called Seraphina but then I was so emotional about the book thief i felt i needed something magical and whimsical to read, so i was like OKAY LETS JUST RE-READ THE ENTIRE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA. xP sooo i read the magicians nephew and the lion, the witch, and the wardrobe and now im in the middle of the horse and his boy.

i sort of started slaughterhouse five when i went to this campout wedding, cause i didnt wanna bring narnia cause i have all of them together in a big book. i couldnt go to sleep so at like 6 am i just chilled outside and started reading slaughterhouse five but i didnt get very far...

im always reading something because i cant stay on the computer or do anything with bright lights before i go to sleep, my eyes cant deal with it. :v so i must read before sleeping! though sometimes thats bad cause i get really into it and want to read all night... but i usually cant sleep without drugs anyways sooooo

that sucks about your phone! ): our poor phones are losers lol

Aha, very nice.

Yeah, I can do that. We used to have a dollar bookstore here, but it closed down. :X

Ooh, well, that's a bummer. I wanted to do group reading as well, but the book I want to read isn't one of great interest, it seems [it was CS Lewis' "Mere Christianity"]. But a couple friends and I did read "The Little Prince" back in June, so. :)

But when you know that the book you have is good, how could you not want to reread it? Is "The Book Thief" sad?

Ah, Chronicles of Narnia. I'd like to reread it as well, but half of the series is in storage. *facepalm* I really liked "The Horse and His Boy". I think it was one of my favorites in the series.

I'm currently rereading, "The Queen of Attolia", which is one of my most memorable and precious books. I almost didn't buy this book when I saw it at the airport because it had a bend in the back cover, but after debating with myself, went with it anyways. It turned out to become my favorite series. *facepalm* Brilliant. I love it.

Yeah, the light from computer monitors actually keeps your brain more active, so before going to sleep, you shouldn't be watching things on a screen anyways. I like reading before bed as well, even if I don't do it every night. There are also times when I don't want to do anything but read. No sleeping, no eating, no breaks --I just want to keep absorbing the story --and then when I finally close the book, I feel kinda dead. XD;

It's okay, at least mine has a nice case. XD

a dollar bookstore sounds like my fantasy

yeah i always try to read books with others but nobody ever follows through v.v i wanna do a mini book club lol

ahhh Le Petit Prince !! I read that in french~ sooo good

yeah i reread all the time especially harry potter. i wanna reread the series of unfortunate events but i just did that sometime in my junior year . :P i havent read narnia since... high school but i dont remember when . so its been awhile, so i was like, this is a good choice for rereading

I have never heard of it but I looked it up and it looks good. Do you like the other books in that series? maybe ill see if our library has them

yeah i know, eyes are like WOA BRIGHT LIGHT? MUST BE THE SUN!!! no sleep 4 u

there were times when i was younger that i would dedicate saturdays to reading an entire book. id tell my family not to bother me and that i was only coming down for meals. and that is how it went. .. but yeah finishing is like death

i am a very emotional person, so you might not think my opinion is very close to yours. xD i mean, i cry during the first pokemon movie :v anyways, the book thief is sad in my opinion, but it is so so good. its set during the holocaust, of course its sad... but its not like most holocaust books/movies ive seen. it was very good.

You're telling me. I could never buy more than $20 worth of books though... they get so heavy. *facepalm*

Aha, if we both have the same book, we can do that together sometime.

Yeah. I think the film's coming towards the end of this year, yeah? I read it way before, but I also gave it to some friends who haven't read it yet. Of the two, only one read it, but I have yet another friend who's also read the book.

Ah, I can't read all of Harry Potter --I always stop around the fifth or sixth book. It's a pretty good series in terms of story, but Rowling has a penchant of filling her book with all this information... I consider certain portions of it to be slow or boring. *facepalm* It's just not for me.

What house would you like to be in, you think?

I liked what I read of "The Series of Unfortunate Events", however, I never finished it. *facepalm* If I have the opportunity, I would like to, someday, but it's not a big thing for me right now.

I probably haven't read it since early college --definitely not in seven years, I think.

Megan Whalen Turner is my goddess. *facepalm* Or something like, at least; I really admire her, because I love the "Thief" series. I mean, you read it, it seems easy enough, entertaining enough, and you think you know where it's going, but then BAM! She throws in a plot twist or an unexpected scene and you need to stop and catch your breath. It's a wonderful, wonderful feeling, especially since too many stories have become predictable to me [and as I result, I'm not allowed to make commentary in the presence of my brother, because I make too-accurate remarks on shows I haven't seen and end up ruining it for him].

I would recommend you read it in order. I also recommend Mary Stewart's Merlin saga; she has one of the most beautiful writing styles I've ever come across. It takes my breath away.

Do you have any favorite books, btw?

My eyes are too used to this, and not used enough to actual sunlight. When I come out of church some afternoons, it's like, "OH GEEZ, WHY!?!?" Seriously, the sky's crazy-bright.

I read everywhere, all day, every day. It's very normal to see me with a book. I used to ditch school sometimes and go to the library to read. XD

Ah, it's fine if you are emotional and it's fine if your opinion's different [my best friend sometimes has different opinions and I love her for bringing new perspectives into my life]. Dude. DUDE. I also cried when I watched the first Pokemon movie. And not only that first time. *facepalm*

My brothers and I actually all went to stand in line that first day together, and my youngest brother was like a little grade schooler. XD We never bonded as hard as we did then --especially since it was just us doing our own thing without our parents. It's one of my fondest memories. Ugh, good times.

Ooh, I see. Geez, that does sound pretty sad. If you're interested, Jane Yolen wrote "Briar Rose" which is also a pretty good read and touches on the Holocaust. It really affected me the first time I read it in high school.

*w* yaaaaasss we should have bookclub togetherrrr -sparkle eyes-

oh yeah i forgot le petit prince was getting a movie!! ahhh its such a great book. for french class we had to do something creative and I painted him and dressed up as him xD my best friend has read it as well since we were in high school french together ~ (although we didnt become best friends until after high school lol)

thats totally understandable. i have loved harry potter since i was a kid, so even all that filler stuff is incredibly interesting to me, even if ive read the series countless times. (': im a ravenclaw for sure <3 how bout you?

i loooove a series of unfortunate events. i think i have strong ties to books i started reading when i was younger ehehe

it is funny you ask about my favorite books, since ours are obviously not even close to the same. (x my favorite series are the two I have already mentioned! hahaaa. for me, i do appreciate all sorts of writing styles, but i am all about feelings. and emotions, and how i feel while reading something. that is what is most important to me, and what i base my interests in books upon. its an experience for me, im very good at throwing myself into each world or universe as if it were my own, which a lot of people dont understand because i am deeply affected by anything i read or watch or listen to. i love characters and their stories, i love being a part of them.

ive ALWAYS loved books - when i was a kid i had a goal to read all the books in the world. what a silly kid i was, ahaha i had no idea how many there were!! (x however, when i started reading harry potter that is probably when i really started dreaming. and imagining myself in these worlds, experiencing everything. books used to be my escape, because i didnt know how to deal with my feelings when i was younger.

i love a series of unfortunate events because it was always interesting to me, and the main characters hardly ever prevail, everything sucks for them most of the time. but they value their relationships with each other, and they get through so so much and they are CHILDREN it just blows my mind, i suppose because its a little more realistic to me. Though there are many fantastical sort of things that happen in those books, its closer to real life than fantasy I feel, and i am also just a fan of the writing style. (x

but yes, i will definitely be searching for the "Thief" series soon as well as the Merlin saga. hopefully the library system here has them. i wonder where my library card is... i better find that. im also not sure where the library is in the city :o i hope its in good walking distance... ima google it OH JOY its only 0.8 miles how lovely! thats maybe a 15 minute walk... hmmm maybe ill go there today

they sound like lovely books. i do enjoy plot twists and such, but i dont much mind when a story is somewhat predictable. I still have just as many feelings xD lol but i do enjoy that feeling of completely unexpected events.

yeah my eyes hurt if i am in the sun too long, which is a shame. i blame it on being a chemist! every summer i spent in the lab all day long, and missed the sunshine, my friend~~

i have very awful focus nowadays so it is much more difficult for me to just read whenever. but i love to go outside when it is nice and read, or in car rides or sometimes i just hang out and read... but its not nearly as often as I used to! though i know it is much more often than my best friend and now roommate >P -keeps bothering her to finish the fellowship lol-

ive probably seen that pokemon movie 15+ times and I STILL cry everytime sooo. xD thats nice that you have good memories about it~ I basically cry when I experience anything. im very sympathetic towards all characters heh or even the themes affect me, or if something is so so beautiful. have you seen the movie Song of the Sea?

I didnt expect it to be so so sad, because the book basically tells you parts of the ending before you get there, but it still destroyed me. but i am incredibly interested in the holocaust, perhaps i just enjoy being sad, who knows? i took a class called Holocaust and Gender in college. It just. I think about the holocaust a lot actually. it blows my mind that something like that actually happened. that slavery actually happened. that all these things have happened in the world, it makes me so so sad to see how humans can be. i dont want them to be that way... I don't know if you listen to Marina and the Diamonds but theres a great song called Savages and some of the lines go
"Were we born to abuse, shoot a gun and run
Or has something deep inside of us come undone?
Is it a human trait, or is it learned behavior"

and i swear she pulled that right out of my head, its something im always thinking of, and wondering . how could humans do such evil things, i dont want to believe that is the nature of us, but i have no proof against this, yes some people are lovely and kind and good but then why do we have all of these awful awful things happening all the time, throughout history and even now, will we ever learn...

im sorry i didnt mean to ... get so serious so quickly. but the holocaust affects me so much, and it makes me think about so many things... I will definitely check out Briar Rose, thank you.

as a side note, thanks for writing walls of text with me, a lot of people dont then i feel bad for saying so many things (x

I checked out a graphic novel of short stories, and put a hold on The Thief by Megan Turner, thanks to Mikael's suggestion. Its at a different branch library, but hopefully they will send it over to mine soon so i can start reading it! (:
