Cringe comedy makes me cringe more than the characters. It is never enjoyable to read, let alone write.

Of course cringe comedy is terrible to read. I don't know anyone who actually likes it. The point is, broaden your horizons! Stretch yourself! Stretch the characters!

Okay, no cringe comedy... In that case, write all the character studies as AUs in different universes. That's a good sort of stretch, not a bad sort, right? Or write the same weird situation starring each of the characters you're studying.
