Mimics? I've been those in Dragon Quest and games

especially when you're not prepared for it

i started hitting every chest once just to make sure it wasn't a mimic
apparently the chain beside the chest will lay a different way if it's a mimic, so you can be prepared
i have been roundhouse kicked to death too many times :(

i don't disagree with the furvilla one being based off the discworld trunk at all. i was just mentioning the mimic cos i thought of it, and i think maybe they were based off the discworld trunk, too

And the only way to tell if it's a mimic in DQ is to open the damn thing

so we can probably safely assume that the D&D monster was based off the discworld series, considering it's an older series... yeah? and then the dark souls monster was based off the D&D one...

The D&D "mimic" monster first showed up in published form in 1977.

The first discworld book was published in 1983. Also, Pratchett has stated that the Luggage is actually inspired by something he saw in person; an American woman, a tourist, hauling along an enormous piece of luggage behind her. It had tiny little wheels, and she was going over cobblestones, and it was bouncing along like it was skipping on tiny legs.

So, Mimic showed up first, but Discworld Luggage wasn't from it anyhow.
