They knuffels have names but you can name them whatever you want when you buy them.
And no, you don't get notified. You have to check them every now and then and see if they've leveled up while you were away.

You can still manually check who fed your knuffel, by going to your knuffel list and clicking on "Feeder/Player"

Where might I find them? I've only found reference to their Gens so far.
