Somehow I don't think I would question her wanting a rose. Flowers are pretty.
But pants? I guess, again, being a small child the idea that someone might not have pants also did not cross my mind.
wikipedia wrote:Some years later, the merchant hears that one of the trade ships he had sent has arrived back in port, having escaped the destruction of its compatriots. Before leaving, he asks his children if they wish for him to bring any gifts back for them. The sons ask for weaponry and horses to hunt with, whereas his oldest daughters ask for clothing, jewels, and the finest dresses possible as they think his wealth has returned. Beauty is satisfied with the promise of a rose as none grow in their part of the country.

So I'm not sure if I should post this here or in the feedback forum. But I'm kind of disappointed with the wind fair recolors. I'm grateful that they're an actual site palette color now... but they don't look special any more at all. The fairy items were neat because they had a shine or sparkle on them and looked unique and they don't any more :qmeh:

@Firn: I've never heard of "Struwwelpeter", so I had to look it up, and wow, the cover and illustrations are pretty much children's nightmare fodder. That one image where that dude tries to cut off that boy's finger --yikes.

@jacobgrey: Aha, your story about the Billy Goats bit in your childhood is pretty funny!

@Tam I am: Ella Enchanted, the movie, was a horrible embarrassment.

I like Ever After with Drew Barrymore for the Cinderella films. At least the motive for the step-mother was understandable, and she actually loved Cinderella's father. Also that scene...
Spoiler
...where Cinderella threw a chicken at the prince was hilarious.

@Firn: Belle wanting pants... omg... She was very forward-thinking for her time, but you know, pants back then were a lot more comfortable than dresses, so it makes complete sense to me!

Not that wanting a rose so badly makes so much more sense though ;)

Also, I'm the same Tam, I've figured out that skirts are actually a lot more comfy than pants most of the time :)
:D I like the longer ones, because I can sit however is comfortable in them.

Now I'm thinking of all the flowers I grew up around that don't grow in the city. I think I understand some the wanting of the rose.

Indeed! *cackle*

On the dress comment, remember peasant dresses were much more comfortable than the ones for rich women. But then there was also the fact that peasant women got no respect, and rich idiots would try to embarrass them sometimes.

Oh, you make a good point. Belle's father was originally a wealthy merchant, but I wonder if they changed their outfits when he lost his fortune.

Probably. Clothing was a valuable commodity in those days.

I love all of those old fashioned dresses.
But I always wondered how hot they were.
It's always hot where I live, and I wonder how it would feel to wear those xD;

I hate skirts and dresses.
Pants and shorts are all I wear.
If I do have to wear a dress or skirt, I wear shorts underneath.
I'm paranoid of someone seeing my underwear xD;

My uncle's girlfriend at the time, was in love with things like Beauty and the Beast, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, etc.
She was a very good artist and I remember her drawing the characters.
She also had a lot of nice books full of stories.
To this day, I still like things like that. Especially the grim parts. xD;

Moi, I imagine it would suck balllsss. I used to wear Lolita and Lolita in Australian summer is like asking for death and the layers aren't even as many ;-; I think the worse are petticoats cause there are so many layers and it's poofy. You don't fit on public transport seats. It's blouse under jumperskirt as well and being someone with a preference for long sleeve blouses under her JSK, I would die + long socks. I should just get chiffon tbh but I stopped wearing Loli. Maybe Moi could wear ouji ovo

Reading through the conversation about Grim, I feel like I'm missing out. I didn't grow up with these books because my parents didn't speak English so a lot of me learning English was during school and on tele. No one ever had any book recommendations for me. My parents gave me a lot of the Disney versions of fairytales with pictures that I would trace.
