From what I understand (J's family all work as optometrists), that only works if you look away without focus, ie you're just staring into the distance. If you look at something in particular and focus on it - like if you're watching TV whilst also playing a game on your phone - that strains your eyes even worse because you're forcing them to constantly refocus.

Ghost wrote:@wulfilalice Procrastination is something i'm good at but recently i've been doing it through kofk :mcsweat: A bit random but your name reminds me of the band Wolf Alice. Have you heard of them? They're one of my favourites. Some songs i would recommend if you're interested: Don't Delete The Kisses, Beautifully Unconventional, Bros, Freazy

@LittleJulez I hope to learn a language fluent enough to one day read an entire book like HP. :mcheh: I used to read on the bus but was quick to realise it made me feel sick, probably motion sickness, maybe? Reading in breaks also gives me a headache because i'm studying art so i spend most of my day staring at a page anyway. :mcgloom: Yes, yes. Walks are nice! I love going on walks, they're so underrated.

I still look for new books too, even though I have heaps. Second hand stores are your best friend if you want real cheap books. I usually get them between $2-$5 each, depending on its size and popularity.

Sorry for disappearing (again)

@Ghost
I heard of many people being motion sick, that must be bad!
I am so lucky I am not getting sick on the bus, car or whatever other transport.
Sometimes I am not lucky though and I do not get a seat in the bus. I dislike reading while standing. Like today.
And I agree. As soon as you can read a book in another language it feels SO good!

@alice
I can "speak" 6 languages: German, English, Russian, Swedish, Spanish, French (in this order).

Oh wow! I only speak three XD And how many of those can you read in?

Hey maybe reading people could help me? I've read a book published on a self-published server (similar to wattpad). I know the author wants to publish it traditionally and is more or less querying now. The book is awesome and I want at least 3 copies when it comes out on paper (to give to friends) but there are some parts that can be improved. I also know the author was open to comments previously. Do you think it would be ok from my side to give her feedback now? I really want to get in touch with her either way, to let her know how awesome of a story it is. But would it be weird if I also told her about those parts that weren't as cool as they could be, in my opinion?

@wulf I would do it. If the author doesn't take it on board, that's no skin off your nose, but they might listen and improve it before they send it out to publishers. Which could be the difference between them getting published and not.

I agree with jacob on that one!

I actually can read in all of them.

It's easy in German and English, but it takes me a little more time in the other languages. Russian because of the alphabet and in the other languages in terms of understanding everything.

I really wish I could read in other languages. I can kind of get by in French and Spanish but only if I have a dictionary. Which interrupts the flow a lot.

I think if I could pick a language like magic, I would like to read in Japanese. The characters as well as the Romanised words.

I can read in three languages - my native, Russian and English. Not perfectly but I work on that every day. And yes, I agree with LittleJulez that
As soon as you can read a book in another language it feels SO good!
@Sanssouci Did you ever try to learn a foreign language? It can be fun (if not in school).

It definitely feels good when I do manage to get through a few sentences on my own XD Don't you find that it's possible to have things expressed more eloquently in a language than your own? Perhaps because it feels exotic and different to how you would say it.

I took a few years of Spanish in school. I took a year of Japanese in college. And I tried learning a little American Sign Language. I don't remember much of any of it though.
