I always tape up my webcam because I know I'll do things like get changed in front of my computer xD I know a guy who builds codes for fun that infest peoples' computers, and if he wanted to, he could hack into their webcams or remotely control their screens. He said he doesn't ever use the hacks, but he just did it as a social experiment to see how many stupid people he could trick into downloading the virus. Apparently it was a lot.
Other than not wanting people watching me naked, I don't think I care too much about the spying issue. I don't do anything illegal, and I don't think there's anything particularly embarrassing in my private life that I would want to hide, so I guess therefore I don't get too worried.

I understand what other people think, I'm just saying I don't really mind personally ^^ A lot of the time I'm an open book and I don't think I have any "secrets" I wouldn't openly tell to other people if they asked, so privacy isn't as important to me.

Lady River, I don't think the link really explains it well. It just says that the law" harms individuals’ right to privacy", but doesn't further explain what the problem with that is, as in, what harm the people have from that?
The article also says that countries like Germany, "which face more severe terrorist threats than Australia – have not legalised mass data collection and instead rely on more targeted means to combat terrorism that do not jeopardise their democratic foundations". Somehow they fail to mention all the terrorist attacks happening here, or in Europe in general? These methods have turned out to be not sufficient as we had not too little terrorist attacs here in the past years. Could they have been prevented if more data was collected? I honestly don't know. I just think the argument is completely invalid as whatever Germany is doing, obviously is not working properly.
For me personaly it is no big deal if some data gets stored. It's not like anyone will sit there and listen to me having a boring converstaion with my mother on the phone (and if they would do so, I'd pity them). Data may be stored but is only looked at if someone thinks you are a terrorist. If the data is misused, then that's a completely different story.
Though I can only speak for myself: I know that my life is utterly boring and there is absolutely no data anyone could ever find interesting and I would actually mind anyone knowing.
Also, I think it's crazy how much data people give away willingly on for example facebook. They probably enter more personal information there on a daily base than any government could store. Makes it a bit paradox to complain about it.
