I am but I literally only just subscribed so I haven't received my first box yet XD

I did almost try this one called, I think, Scribbler. Or something like that. Anyway, they were going to charge me double the price of the box in shipping, so I cancelled immediately. Have to watch out for that, it seems.

I'm worried that I can't preview the books and that many goodies added are themed after harry potter, game of thrones, lord of the rings fandoms and I don't really care about anything from those. it would be really disappointing to get a book I don't care about and merch I don't care about.

what box did you subscribe to?

Yeah, that was a problem for me when I was looking as well. I think mine's just called Book Box, which kind of does what it says XD There's an option for this one which includes the full box, with all the goodies added, or you can go for a 'lite' version that only has samples in and is much cheaper. So I went for the samples version because I really don't care about the extra stuff.

I also noticed a lot of them include tea and coffee - well, I don't drink anything but hot chocolate, and I would prefer vegan chocolate as well, so it's difficult to find something that works. I figured with this small size one, if there's tea or coffee I can just give it to J. But I wouldn't see the point in getting a full-size box and paying for a lot of tea or coffee, considering he can just go and choose his own.

I am considering giving up on The Ministry of Utmost Happiness. The first part was about the life of a transgender lady. I didn't know where it was going, but I was entertained enough. But now it's skipping around. There will be a page about her, a page about her friend, a page about a baby, a page about a guy, a page about a political group, back to the baby for a page, back to the guy for a page, etc. So I'm losing interest REALLY fast now. And a lot of the reviews for the book say that it's not even about anything, so I am afraid it will be like that all the way through.... Yeah, I think I am done with it!

That's a shame. Usually when I see poor reviews I like to hope that I will enjoy the book anyway XD Same for films and other things. But I have to admit, usually it doesn't turn out that way. Hopefully the author will learn from these reviews and create new work which is more focused.

Sometimes it's just better for everyone to move on. You'll have no fun reading it and the author won't benefit from a negative review. If you even choose to waste more time writing a review for a book that you've already wasted a lot of it reading.

I'm like that too, I hope to like the book anyway or at least be able to say "well now this opinion is my own".

There were a few subscriptions that offered really cool books in the past (all the books their archives featured were on my to-read list) but they either don't ship to europe or it costs too much. I'm eyeing two local services but keep thinking that physical books need a place to be stored, and I should probably just buy the books I want and support the authors directly, and I can get myself candles, chocolate, tea, bookmarks, postcards, and anything I want, and put it all in a box if I so want XD guess it's some kind of an I-want-a-shiny-box-that-looks-like-someone-made-me-a-present syndrome XD

My thing is basically I don't have time to look around and find out what's good XD I can be too indecisive, and I can sometimes rule books out because of one small doubt. So this way I'll get to read a range of books which have been chosen for me, and I won't have to spend time reading up on them beforehand.

And yeah, I admit it, I want a shiny box XD

haha oh yea indecisiveness is a thing! I wish there was a box where you could give your 50-book wishlist and they'd send you something from it XD

Yes, that would be fun! As is, I don't like to read things that other people pick. That's why I can never do book clubs either. I'm always like, "Oooh, book club!" But then I see the book, and I'm like, "Meh," lol.
