For real, like you have to give your character's flaws and problems and the like. I don't accept perfect characters and usually require some weakness or flaw to be included in the character skeleton, just to make sure people don't give me unflawed characters.

Yeah, I try to work with people when they create their characters. Like suggesting flaws and and weaknesses for them, and how they can apply to their character.
My group and I work very well together on things like this, we're always suggesting things for each other. Either spit-balling ideas or trying to steer each other in the right direction.

I love giving my characters flaws/issues and the like, give them depth and it also has the added bonus of a whole lot more inspiration of hurdles and obstacles to throw at them for them to overcome, or not even cause that is also valid and interesting sometimes.

But some people really feel like the only good rp is one where the difficulty is 1 and their characters are level 100 and everything always goes right etc c':

Yes! Depth and room for growth and development!
You have to be able to expand and grow your characters!
Otherwise everything is boring and your story is flat and it peters out and dies.
Like my group, he have a Harry Potter RP that's like, two years strong and created an adult sequel and a couple spin off AU's. lol

I had a group roleplay once with 7 people about an original post-apocalyptic verse where everyone played 2 characters and it lasted for well over a year and had a full story from start to finish. Some of us had characters that died, got injured etc or made mistakes, wrong choices etc and it was perfect /fondly strokes memories of story c':

but so many people only see the main storyline and aren't interested in subplots or other things happening. Everything has to happen to further the main plot (usually of getting our characters together) and that's boring :/

Oh yeah, we have like a hundred mini plots in our stuff. lol
There are so many characters that they each have their own lives and arcs and sub-plots... It's fun.
Because we've deviated from canon, because I didn't want to play right into all of that stuff. But we still have a few things going on from canon stuff, just not with the canon characters.
We barely mention the canon peoples. Mostly just Draco Malfoy and Viktor Krum. Who are related to a couple PC's. lol

Those roleplays of yours sound amazing! I'm not that experienced of a roleplayer myself, but I agree with the points you made about quality roleplays, even though I'm not always sure if I manage to do a good job at all of them.

Plus right now I'm trying to fend off another RP we're planning.
I haven't gotten the background stories done on my two characters yet, and the game runner is already wanting to start and also wanting me to pick up and complete and third character...
