I heard something about some sort of trouble that involved an active harassing account ended up being deleted that borked a bunch of accounts too, from posts to join dates

Huh, that sounds super weird.

But I agree Moi, being active and friendly is what counts :)
In that sense, I think it's actually good for the statistics that the spam threads get cleared out, since the posts in there are rarely actual chatting.

Yeah, I mostly go to threads I have bookmarked, too. Sometimes during posting events when they are all inactive at the time, I look through the chats and hangouts though and find new places to add to them :)
