Good you can stay out of it if you need to, then. They don't sound like an easy set of roommates to have, but I suppose yelling is at least communicating, and the worst stories I hear are ones that don't communicate at all, so.... that's something? I guess?

yeah, i've known them for a couple years now and... recently i sorta just figure it's their style of communication and solving problems. it's a terrible way and often it's just sticking a bandaid on an open wound, but... it's better than nothing?

I guess if the avenue is open, then there's at least a chance it can change and evolve as they figure out better ways to do it.... however unlikely....

Same. I try and conduct the really emotional conversations over email where it's easy to stop and edit before sending and there's a little bit of a distance-buffer.

good communication is key and it matters just as much how some things are said as it matters what is being said. Personally if someone was incapable of settling a discussion or argument without resorting to shouting, I don't think I'd really hang out with them much c':

Popo... same. I have trouble with shouting. It's also actually harder for me to distinguish words when the decibel level is too high, too, so it's just noise at that point, which doesn't help.

Well, people do tend to repeat behaviors that give them SOMETHING or other, even when it's not conscious. So presumably the shouting does something for them. (Even if it's just something like reminding them they're alive, or giving them a way to vent that because there are two of them doing it, it tells them it's okay to shout sometimes and they need that outlet, even if it doesn't help them solve the actual problem at hand? I don't know, people are pretty complex. The year after my parents were divorced they lived together better than they had the last six years of their marriage, so who knows? I think they might've stayed like that if their accountant hadn't yelled at them because something-something-taxes-something)
