And that's why sometimes cats will groom each other and then snap at each other and then go back to grooming? Because they want the other to stop grooming them so they can groom the other one and be superior. I don't know. It's so confusing.

Well, I guess humans kind of do that too? People will comment on each other's fashion as a way to play one-up-man-ship games. Kind of a "I know what looks better on you than you do" sort of thing, so maybe cats grooming each other can be on the same lines? I'm sure it's not always that, but I only have to think back to a rather annoying clique of girls at one of my schools and there's a similar behavior pattern, so...
