soooo i have term papers to write and i'm on a time crunch because the system is so wonky they've even pushed ordinary assignments into term paper week. even if i write 1000 words a day i'm not gonna make it, and i have to research for the papers on top of that.
but i'm still here lmao not only cause kofk is a great way to procrastinate but it calms me down.

Hello Myan! I appreciate your PM and it was not at all too bold :)
I loved this site and am still very fond of it. So now that I have the time I'd absolutely love to get back in to it.
I wish there was a way to get it to live again. More advertising or something. I have never even seen adds for this site, ever. I came here when they branched off of Gaia, if it weren't for that I would have never known about this place.
Despite what my account says I have been here since near the beginning. I found it just months after they split off.

thank you! i'm glad :mccute:
oooh i'm kind of jealous, i wish i was here since the beginning! i'm so curious about the times in kofk that i didn't experience.
likewise, though, i love this site to bits. i came here in high school, and it was a very rough time for me; kofk was the safe haven i could take refuge in.

firn has talked about advertising before in the feedback forum i think, it takes money to advertise and she doesn't get enough from donations even to pay for the servers so there definitely isn't money to spare. plus, i think it doesn't really pull in users anyway. like, even when new users come to the site, it's slow on activity so it doesn't hold their interest. it's like a vicious cycle. there needs to be at least a small base that's highly active.

but i feel like the root of the problem is that nobody is interested in avatar forums anymore. everyone i know who plays them tends to be a generation or two removed from me, and it's often the same users i encounter across avatar forums. with more sophisticated online games and communities i guess avatar forums are becoming sort of obsolete.
i just personally really like dressing up and chatting, but that can be done on all kinds of virtual worlds and mmos. i just really like the format of forums with avatars next to the posts, personally. because the conversations don't disappear, people don't have to be online at the same time to talk, the whole setup takes less bandwidth, doesn't require you to grind for in-game money or play a heckload of other activities just to dress up... i just never moved on from avatar forums into other online games :mcheh:

Hello! I do apologize for being gone so long, especially right after I said I hate dealing with that. Lol. My house decided to catch everything that was going around town at once! My husband and son had a cold a few weeks ago, then my husband got the flu, and my son and I are getting over a nasty chest cold. Along with I had a few doctor appointments to do in order to see what is going on now with my body.

Being here since the beggining was really great actually! I joined their first December they were here I believe, or whatever month the Centaur set came out, I think. That was the first donation item I ever received. We had a very tight knit little family here and then the page got really popular, at least in comparison to what it was, and many of us split off and of course over time there became conflict between some members that had been here for a long time and friends for awhile, as is normal, oh geez even Firn and I got into arguments and oi! That was bad. I left shortly there after that because she was uhm... Lets say making things difficult for me to be here by also disabling features for my account out of anger. I'm not even sure if she ever forgave me, I have still been too scared to try and chat with her again. We used to chat a lot and I'd donate to the site a long, along with sending them $300 wedding check <3 oh them getting married was so exciting! Also when Vindrae's items came out, she was so excited and honored Firn allowed to make items, and rightfully so! I mean her excitement, it was a huge honor and her designs are wonderful.
A lot of drama that drove away a lot of those who had been here since the begining started when she started reworking the items, including once we spent months upon months saving for and earning just for them to look so different that we no longer liked them and felt we wasted so much real money and time on them as if they had looked how they do now, we would not have wanted them, etc.
I still get very upset about it thinking about it and going to make my Avatar and my most loved items looking so different now. I cannot focus on that or honestly I may leave again. Lol.

I do think you are right with people not being in to avatar sites anymore, and it is sad. I love this place, it was a safe haven for me as well as I am not a social person and I got to know some amazing people on here that were friends for years, outside of here. Pen pals and such as well as becoming friends on Facebook.
I really hope Firn does advertise more as I'd love to see this place alive and thriving again and I'm sure she would as well. She has always taken great pride in this site and puts so much love, effort and time in to it. I understand not having the money for it, I wish there was a way to help, but I cannot afford to donate myself, yet. I do plan on donating monthly again if I can get myself back in to this place. I wont be able to do donations like I did before, but something is better than nothing. I used to put about $350/month into donations here as I was working and had no bills to pay since I was still at home. Now I have all the bills and troubles of adult life along with a son to take care of.
oH my gosh I am so sorry this is so long! I just got to thinking of how things were and what happened to make me leave and I got caught up in it all.
How have you been?

it's okay! life happens! and being sick sucks. taking care of sick family is very demanding too. it's good your cold is going down; i hope your other medical appointments went well :mcshock:

oh my gosh, you knew them before they got married! and when they got married whoa that's amaaazing :qh: i always thought it was so cute how this site is like their love child :mcsquee: drama sounds rough though. i've been put off of sites entirely due to drama before. i like how firn can be chatted to like any other member, she is aloof but not that aloof, but omg drama with her would be scary. i'm glad she now has polls and opinion threads whenever she's thinking of redrawing an item so that people can give their input about whether they like it better after it's redrawn or not. why didn't she do that when she first started redrawing? (i assumed she always had these opinion checks, but then i haven't been here for long, relatively speaking. so i wouldn't know).

which were Vindrae's items? :mclove: i knew she made the emoticons here, (right? i'm fairly sure) but i didn't know she made items too!
if you had to save up months for those items, did fairy coins cost more then/did the items cost more than a fairy coin/ was it the donation perks items that had to be saved up for? asking because i know now nobody is able to get more than a few of the items released each month, but a lot of things are released each month. and at one point there weren't these many TT sets and minisets released... was there a time when it was just the MT released?

that's lovely! i've really enjoyed talking to some people on here but it never got to the point where we moved into other platforms like facebook. being pen pals sounds sooo much fun though.

omggg 350 a month? :qshock: what did you find to spend it on? would you buy a lot of multiples? or just hoard fc?
yeah children are expensive! and i'm living in a shared apartment to attent grad school and sure enough, the expenses just build up! the money runs like sand through my fingers lol.

usually when i can afford to donate something i have to split it between kofk and trisphee. and trisphee usually gets a bigger chunk because it really needs it more... the number of active users i can count on one hand out of which the ones who are able to donate reduces the numbers even more, lol. but the owner stated in no uncertain terms that they'd never shut it even if they had to pay for servers themselves (and server costs won't be much for it because there's so less traffic) so as long as there's people who're going to it and are attached to it, the site stays. (trisphee is also my favourite avatar site of ever, so some of it is personal bias.)

i like that it's long! i really enjoy textwalls actually. it feels a bit like writing a letter, with the potential to be in-depth and detailed, and very few of my interactions nowadays feel like that. so. i actually treasure textwalls! :mclaugh:

i've been bleghhh because i have end-of-semester term papers to write... but they're a 20k word limit taken all together. they're all due at the same time and they require research too, not just writing. i'm supposed to finish them on the 22nd. they're 35% of my grade.
and while i know i'm lucky to be attending college at all and should make the best of it, i don't think it's reasonable, this kind of workload. and it pisses me off to know that i'm not going to be able to do well with these essays that are such a large chunk of my grade, simply because i'm on a time crunch and they're not spaced out at all. because it's like... i COULD do well if not for these factors that are out of my control, i COULD do well if what was demanded of me was reasonable... okay gonna stop ranting now :mcheh:

Oh my goodness, I do not think Vindrea did the emoticons, but I could be wrong! I do know she had a few items that she made herself and instead of Firn recreating them to fit the style of the site at the time, she left them exactly how Vindrea made them and will never remake them to fit with the current site either as they are not her art work, which I really respect Firn on that, not messing with someone else's art work. She made the Pet Magpie, Magpie Top, Magpie wings and headwings. She also made the Midnight Rose set and I think, but am not for sure, the Midnight Fairy items as well. I actually had to search through my invo to find them as I could not remember their names. Lol. Vindrea and another old friend of mine on here absolutely love Magpies because they are beautiful, smart and fascinating creatures, I actually learned a lot about them due to those two. Lol They are unique and gorgeous items.

Well when we had to save up for months it wasn't because things are expensive like they are now, but they were to us at the time. Think of how money is now verse in like 1900. MT were the only TT items, actually I don't think the TT was even a real shop yet. Lol. But you had the option to buy them by donating to the site (Fair Coins were not a thing yet) or with 10k food points. It was expensive for us at the time be cause the main source of food was from polls and talking. There were very few Knuffel available, and not how you know them today, along with no games, contests, etc. So you got a set added to your account for every $2.50 you donated. When things started to change to how they are now it was very exciting! The first shops and items coming out, the first sets added to the TT That weren't a monthly item, Fairy Coins, Queen items, it was all super exciting and great to see it growing and becoming more how Firn wanted it. Oh! Donation Perks, so like I said FC wasn't a thing for a good bit, but once they were you would get 1fc for every $2.50, just like the MT before them, but you didn't get any donation perks, or even knew about them, unless you donated $50. They were a secret and we were forbidden from talking about the amount you had to donate to receive them. Like i said, at first we didn't know they existed, you just all of a sudden started getting something added to your account and a personal letter from the queen when you donated the right amount for the month. After they were know we still did not know what the item was until someone donated the amount to find out and were still not allowed to talk about the donation amount to receive it. So, needless today, I was surprised when I came back and saw that there are actually different levels of perks now, along with you know what they are and how much to donate for them. The first Queen items are very rare and very treasured. There's a lot of old items that it's basically impossible to get now, I myself missed out on some, spent years saving and hunting and was still never able to get my hands on them. They were given away for small things Firn loved, such as for her favorite band there is a shirt, wearable thought bubble, and ablack cat on your head. The cat you only got if you knew about and participated in a private drawing comp she issued in her thread at the time which was to draw the black cat from the band. I'm not sure how you got the shirt and emot, I have the emot, but have never been able to get the cat or shirt. There's also the pet Jellyfish and two matching backgrounds because her hangout used to be "The jellyfish Domination!" Lol and if you were part of the crew you got those items. Oh there's also a rare background from her band as well. She also has her own Kimono and Fan named after her that are gorgeous, very very hard to get. She also made a birthday hat for one of close friends, at the time, and our favorite MOD. They had a falling out and she has since just changed the name of the item so his name is no longer in it. She also made a bDay hat for the lead singer of her Fav band at the time, the same one with the cat and other items, so it's fun being around so long that you know where all these crazy random items came from. Lol. Not knowing the story most people don't care for the items or even know about them.

Well, I didn't start spending that much until FC came out and then I would hoard and/or sell them. Before FC I would donate $50/mo to get the Queen item. She started doing the polls to change items, after she had changed some and users, myself included, got very upset. Then, she was allowing everyone to vote on it, but it still really upset us with some items as the very old ones only a few of us on the site had and we did not want them changed, but those who did not own the item and were newer to the site did. We suggested that when it came to the old and very rare items only those who owned them should be allowed to vote rather than just everyone when they did not and would not ever own them. She denied this. So despite none of us who owned the items wanting them changed they were still changed. She lost a huge portion of the old members and most active people on the site after that. Donations plummeted as we were the ones mainly keeping the site alive.

Then of course there's the huge inflation that has happened so most items are ridiculously priced, gold is worth little to nothing, fairy coins are rare and over priced. We worked hard to prevent that from happening as old members, Firn as well, we would not allow Fairy Coin values to be more than 20k max, preferably lower. If fairy coins started to raise too high we'd donate more than normal when possible to get more out to the users and drive the prices down.

I used to be on Gaia a lot as well, I had been there since 2005 so shortly after they opened as well. Lol. I was also part of a couple other avatar sites, but they have since shut down. Two of them were created by people that left here! One of which being the guy with the birthday had. His name was Maus and he was awesome, but yet, after they had their falling out he decided to make his own site where he could make the changes like he thought Firn needed to. It was a great site and I loved it very much, but sadly it did not gain in popularity as people thought they would have to choose between him ro Firn and chose to stay here. That was not the case at all though. You could be a part of both sites no problem. Firn forbid speaking of him for awhile here, which I understand, as I said they were good friends so I am sure she felt hurt and betrayed and just didn't want to discuss it. As for him on his site, he never said an ill word about Firn other than that she was stubborn and he was just trying to help. So, even though they did not speak anymore, they were respectful about it instead of becoming petty. Maus's site closed due to school, work, and life becoming too much.

Oh my gosh, I never went to college myself, but that sounds crazy! I don't mind writing huge papers, even those that require research, I actually enjoy researching and learning new things, but that just seems crazy to have to do so much for such a large part of your grade all at once! They really should have spaced those in my opinion, it'd give their students more time to understand and be happy with their work rather than rush through it and hopefully grasp half of what they read and had to write about. That's just frustrating and rude. Lol

the midnight rose set is one of my favourites! i don't own a single one of the items and i don't hope to either but damn is it beautiful. i love playing around with it on the DAC ahah :mcheh: the pet magpie is super cute too! also the midnight fairy top was the first fairy item i ever got on here :mclove: amazing.

yeah, that's decent of Firn :mccute: i've seen that kind of collaboratively making items on Trisphee, anyone who can pixel has the chance to work on items, and users pitch in their design ideas even if they can't pixel them, i love that.

ohh, so before FC you'd get multiples of a set added to your invo. makes sense. but then there must have been multiples of those old valuable items floating around no? like they shouldn't be so hard to get? although if you were an even smaller group then and most of those users don't come here even to sell those items, i get how they stay rare :mcshock:

i love love love the jellyfish items but i know i have no chance at ever obtaining them lol this is me with most of the items i covet. recently (literally yesterday) i managed to snag a snow white skin, which i have coveted for YEARS, so that made me super happy. oh! this is also why i can't keep my wishlist updated. i covet practically every item cause firn's art is so pretty, but i own almost none of them, so i'd end up adding like 3/4th of all the items on the site to my wishlist. and then the market notifications would go crazy on me hahah. and i'd go to the market only to find one of these items selling for 3 to 5 FC, something unaffordable. :qmeh:

that is sooo interesting! i wish i knew the story behind some of these items and what inspired them. do you know any others? also you might not remember the names of these items, but do you remember one of the words in their names? i want to search them up in the DAC cause i don't think i've seen any of them, and i play around on the DAC a LOT (i make my entries for the Collector's Corner contest on there every week lol). i wish there was an option to search for items from oldest to newest on the DAC, similar to the shops. that would be cool.

yeah, it makes more sense to have people who own the item vote on it because even if others who don't own it are questing it and that's why they want to have their say... if it's that old and rare the questers are probably never gonna own them. so. :mcheh: maybe it takes complicated coding to make sure only those who own it vote? idk. also how does it work now? it's still everyone who can vote right? i don't really vote because i inevitably don't own the items being redrawn. lol sorry if i'm coming off as whining about how i don't own items. i'm actually not that bothered about not owning items, i have plenty of fun with the DAC and i'm not that bothered that i can't actually wear the avis i make with it :qt:

yeah, i'm... sad about the inflation but idk how it could have ended up any different. i mean, it's a fact that there weren't enough donations to keep fairy coins circulating at a fair price, and it's a fact one can't do much about. i'm able to donate sporadically, but i've only donated enough to buy the sets i want AND still have FC left over to sell... like... twice in my life? lol there are so many sets released, i don't think selling FC is something people do anymore. plus, with the lava lamps coming, it doesn't make sense anymore to sell FC to get food. instead getting a lava lamp with that FC is like buying a food farm, instead of buying just one harvest. i'm afraid nobody is going to be selling FC anymore except out of the charity of their hearts (like Doki) unless they urgently need so much food they can't wait to farm it.

oooh, what were the two other sites called? i think it's amazing that kofk inspired them to create their own sites, even if they didn't return here again.
yeah, i'm pretty annoyed with how college work is going. like, i'm researching, but a lot of what i read i won't be able to use for the essays, so the payout of doing research is less. and yet it's necessary. and yet it's so time-consuming and i'm on a time crunch. i hate it. i just hope i pass lol
