Hopefully yes, I really like this site but I never find anywhere to really post consistently when I have time.

I was the contrary and thought that maybe it would help motivate me to brush up my German (which is awful, seriously). Not knowing German is one of my complex.

Have you tried DuoLingo? Everyone in my family uses it for some reason, lol. Or you could create a hangout or something in the forums inviting people to practice with you?

Yup, I've been doing it. But somehow, Duolinguo isn't enough. And I lack vocabulary way too much to have actual conversations.
I learn languages by using/reading/listening to them so I've been reading some simple children things in German but somehow it doesn't stick in my head which I guess is the main problem of my German learning.
Oh well, at least I understand it well enough.
(For the record, I'm French, have grown up near the border with Germany so many older people have been speaking German around me and I've been hearing it all my life and yet, I still can't speak it, hence the complex)

I guess that would give anyone a complex.... But hey, you're actually trying and that's fantastic!
Is there a German for Dummies book? You could try that, maybe? I've never even read a for Dummies book before though, so I don't even know if they're good, lol.
Maybe listening to music....? Yeah, I have no real ideas, sorry lol. I don't speak it myself otherwise I'd offer, but yeah. Sorry. :(

Ooooh thanks! I didn't know any of these so I'll try.
And even if LingoDeer doesn't have German I was looking at learning Chinese anyway so that'd be good as well.
The for dummies series is good for basics or for basic things you'd need for travel, but I already have (good I hope) basics.
So yeah, my problem is pretty hard to solve, I can speak a few languages but I've never had to actually force myself to learn it. The easiest way would be to move to Germany but that's not exactly possible so I'll stick with Duolingo for the time being. At least it makes me "study" everyday and it's better than nothing.
That being said, my German teacher in high school did make us sing because he said it was making us actually speak German and that it was a good pronunciation exercise.
