That sounds so reasonable.
Why on earth must we do FIVE fancy meals, with billions of members of your family - even those you haven't spoken to in the whole year?
(Well, used to be billions of people, last year it was limited to 10 or 16 or something like that.)


I suck at choosing presents. I try to avoid it at all costs.
It's tradition but I really don't do it.
I'm not even good at receiving them :mcsweat:

Lol yeah just slightly fancier dinner for thanksgiving and Xmas and New Years and stuff lol. Like getting a chicken or steak or lamb or ribs. Or we order out like getting a sushi platter or something.

Instead of eating the same Chinese food we make again lol.

I don't know many people irl. I know a lot online.
Every year, it's just a handful of us who get together.

The last three months of the year used to be so magical to me.
I was always happier around that time of year.
Now I'm just sad xD

I got...
My mom
My dad
My sister
My aunt

That's the only family that lives in this town that I see.
We also have my mom's boyfriend and my ex-uncle who we usually see now around holidays.

Every so often, my uncle comes to visit us, but he's with this woman and her son now so he has his own little family to spend time with.

My aunt and uncle on my dad's side live in other towns, one being like 4-6 hours away so we don't see her often.

Sadly, most of my family is dead.
Like I don't even have any grandparents anymore because they already died.

Oh, that's so sad, Moi.
My grandpa died last year and I miss him so much.
I still have two grandmothers, but one of them is very old and does not remember anyone most of the time.

Grandparents are always special, the relationship you have with them is always unique.

My grandma on my mom's side died when I was about five years old. She died from lung cancer and I only have a handful of memories of her but they're like...2 second clips.
I remember she lost her hair from the treatments and wore wigs.
I remember my grandpa calling us and telling us she died.
We walked to their house and I ran to their bedroom to see her, but my grandpa told me "Baby, she's not back there..."
Then he died in 2008 from lung cancer also. I cried so much before he died that I didn't shed a tear at his funeral.
My grandpa was a strong man. He fell into a coma for a few days before he died.
My sister and I hadn't visited him yet, but when we did he died about 15 - 10 minutes later.
Everyone said that he was waiting to see his only grandkids one last time before he died.
That would be my grandpa.
Then I lost my great grandma (my grandpa's mom) a little while later also from lung cancer.
I was so lost in my own mental breakdown that I wasn't there for her like I should have been.

My grandpa on my dad's side died before I was born so I never got to meet him.
I recently saw a picture of him. I'd only seen one picture of him before and it was small so I had issues seeing him.
He was a singer and had his own band and everything.
He also had Resting Bitch Face just like me.
My dad told me he was a really sweet person but looked angry and thought people didn't like him xD
My grandma died...maybe 5-7 years ago. I don't know if she had Alzheimer's or Dementia or what but she...wasn't herself anymore. She couldn't do anything for herself and didn't know what was going on and stuff.
Her kidneys failed her and she died in a hospice where someone was stealing her stuff.
I remember my dad saying he wanted to get her a ring and my aunt told him not to get an expensive one because someone was stealing my grandma's stuff.
I rarely get so pissed I wanna say something, but this was one of those times >__>


I have a soft spot for the elderly. The elderly, animals, and small children/babies.
I think the soft spot for the elderly is because I have no grandparents anymore.

I could not help crying while reading it, there is so much sadness in your words.
I would like to send you a huge virtual hug, dear.

The elderly are awesome.
They lived hard times, and still find courage to be lovely.
I wish we valued them more!

a lot of my family lives in HK, my maternal side anyway. the closest relatives i have are my aunt (on my father's side) who lives in the States. and my maternal great aunt's (my mom's aunt) side of the family.

Funnily enough, my dad brought over a photo album my aunt put together.
I got to see so many pictures of my grandpa that I never met and other family I've never met.
My grandpa was in the military and he was stationed in Germany.
He met my grandma and they fell in love.
They actually got married in Germany, but he had to come back to Texas.
She decided to come be with him so she had to get her citizenship and they even had to get married again here because apparently the first one didn't count since it wasn't in the US.
I'm going to post the photos in my thread, but I wanted to share this one 8u
I don't have a scanner anymore, so I had to take a picture with my phone xD
I hope you guys can see it u8

I even got to see family that I've never met because they lived in Germany.
I wish there was a way to see and speak to our relatives who have died.
I mean...ones we've never met. Like our much older ancestors.
I wanna meet my Native American ancestors 8u
