@Hotarla:
Yeah, we could do that!
I'm gonna start arraging it right away, and - of course - I'll be the spiritual leader!

@Moi:
I think the problem with cults is that there is often some bastard who bends this religious or spiritual ideas to create a network of illegal work (drug traffic, prostitution, you name it) using those people he's brainwashed.
I assume there are also plenty of kinda harmless cults, because they don't do that kind of illegal stuff. But still look pretty creepy from the outside.

I'm gonna drink from the classics: I'll resurrect the Pythagoreanism!

Having a famous name on it will help, I'm sure of it.
Parents will think their children are studying the famous theorem, when in fact they are being abducted by my cult, mwahahahaha. (That's an evil laugh, in case you did not notice)

Pythagorean beliefs on the transmigration of souls are catchy, I would certainly use that.
Music was important for them; harmony & rythm will work to my advantage: I'm sure we can create cool hymns and give them some mythological background.
Pythagoreans also preached an austere life so I - their guide on earth - will help them to get rid of all their material possession. I'll keep an eye on all them >:>

Anybody wants to join?

I remember when this cult was brought to public attention.
I think it was NXIVM:
NXIVM (/ˈnɛksiəm/) was an American cult that engaged in sex trafficking, forced labor and racketeering.

People were talking about how bad the leader(s) were and this guy basically said "Well, if you're stupid enough to join a cult then it's kinda your own fault!"

EXCUSE ME?
Then when someone called him out for victim-blaming, he backtracked and said that's not what he meant to say.
No, you made your point very clear, sir.
If I had any respect for you after you victim-blamed, it's all gone now that you tried to cover your ass Bu

As I said - cult leaders are predators. They find people who are struggling and manipulate them into being controlled.

And this is why I’m glad I never hear of these things here lol. Sure, they might exist but I’ve never heard of them here in my city so I count my lucky blessings.

@Hotarla: But I am a Mathematician! If I'm gonna create a cult, I gotta make my role in it believable xD

Oh, victim-blaming always ends up sneaking in pretty much every controversial conversation. Cults, rape, domestic violence, you name it.

Yes, I agree that cult leaders are likely to be predators. Otherwise they would not care to lead a cult.
And some cults are definetely terrible (the one in your town) while others may be seemly harmless - but still those people are being brainwashed, and sure as the sun shines that their leaders are also taking advantage of them in any other ways.

The only time I'll ever blame a victim is if like...someone sees a bear sleeping and they decide to poke it with a stick. I don't feel sorry for them because they poked a bear with a stick xD
If anything, I get angry people kill the bear.
It's not the bear's fault an idiot decided to poke them with a stick >>

As for people being tricked into joining a cult, I feel bad for them.
Because they're insecure in some way and get taken advantage of.

I don't think I could ever fall for a cult leader.
I have a lot of hatred for myself and I'm full of regret, but I'm not as dumb as I look xD
I try to be more positive and try to look on the bright side, but I'm a very cynical person.
