I would like to learn Japanese - again. I studied it for three years, but that 20 years ago so I don't remember much.
I even checked the schools around here, but the timetables did not really match my lifestyle. I mean, if I drive 30 minutes, have a 1h 30 min class, drive back 30 minutes again all in the middle of the afternoon... then I have no afternoon to spend with my son!
(Evening would be a different thing though...)

Reading every night is a plan.
That's what I do, go to bed one hour before sleep time, grab a book and enjoy a relaxing time :mccute:

I self-studied for a bit a few times, but never got far with Japanese. I had found a college not too terribly far that taught Japanese, but that was 6 years ago now? Who knows if they still do, but it was during the day which would not work at all for me now.

I used to babysit for my cousins and let me tell you, they were a handful. I rarely had all 4 kids at the same time though whenever I would watch for one of them.

I cannot read in bed anymore tbh, I end up falling asleep if it's a physical book. I just have my big comfy chair in my "library" that I read on with my dogs hogging all of my leg room.

If you fall sleep maybe it's more urgent getting sleep-time than reading-time?
Sounds like you are exhausted.

- books in Galician language
- about feminism
- books related to science/maths
- any of the books that have been sitting on my to-read list for way too long.
And about my challenge.
Now reading my second book in Galician! YAY!

This book was a gift and not the genre I'm most into. But still it's well written and it is short enough to be a light read.
So.
A step closer my challange.

I think it's because of the lighting in my room if I were to read by lol. It's really soft lighting because I don't want the bright day light bulbs in my room. Because I used to read in bed a lot before I moved out on my own and never had this issue before then.

So, the fiber internet line got cut so I have no internet AND my cell phone decided my house was a dead zone for mobile data. Instead of going straight to bed last night when I got home. since I did get home earlier than expected, I got an hour and half of reading time before I crawled into bed. And seeing as there is no ETA of when the internet will be back up, I won't get caught up watching anything before I go up to read. I guess this was a good week to decide to focus on reading.

That sounds like such a good reading challenge. I should try doing that to get myself out of my comfort zone with my reading (as I only read fantasy).

I try to read before bedtime but I don't always manage. I just either forget or have other stuff to do :mcheh: But I'm slowly reading more regularly.

I used to only read fantasy, then a huge gap in my reading, and now I'm a grown up and my taste probably changed, so I want to try other stuff out. Idk if it will be this year though.

I usually get caught up doing something else so most nights it'll be around 8:30-9 before I realize it and I'm usually in bed by 9:30-10 so not a lot reading time if I go up then (it takes around 20 or so minutes to get ready for bed)

I always loved getting lost in a good fantasy. I just found that I read thicker books than I did when I was younger. I still ready young adult fantasy romances since they are easier to read and a nice break between thick books. I usually only browse the fantasy section when I go the bookstore. I'm very hesitant to purchase a book outside of fantasy. Which is why I really should go get a library membership again.

Today I'm not reading before bedtime, cause I only have like 15 minutes of leisure time and I really wanted to check KofK - and get some more donuts!

No internet is the best reason ever for focusing on reading XD
I used to read so much more when I had no internet!

And, yeah, I think having this kind of challenge has been a good idea.
Instead of focusing on numbers (which I do on GoodReads) I focus on the type of books I would like to read.

I can't even check kofk lmao. I have no clue why my house is being a dead zone for mobile data when I've had no issues with it not working at my house before.

IKR I actually READ for 3-3 1/2 hours last night. I stopped at 100 pages exactly. Usually I only read for like 2 hours which is around 60-70 pages (yes I have timed myself to see how much I read in a single hour).
I read a lot until I graduated high school. Then college and studying didn't leave me a lot of time to read. It took me 8-9 years to get back into reading more frequently.

If I actually make my challenge for this year I am going to try that for next year! I know I have some classics on my shelves I've been wanting to read, but I never actually do. I also want to read mysteries but I never know where to start for that genre.

Wow, three hours a day is a lot.
I definetely don't have that much time in my hands anymore.
And I like to waste some of it on the internet, I can't deny it xD
So reading about one hour is what I do.

Yesterday I was talking to one editor (we were in a book presentation) who mentioned how people started reading less when they got into college, and how measures should be taken to prevent it.
And I was like "oh, well, but you simply don't have the time anymore... I know that's the point in life at which my leisure time started to shrink."
