Wow, Li Li, that's a REAL adventure you had there.
My trips are usually way more uneventful xD

I have this friend who once packed some clothes, went to the airport and said "I want to buy a ticket for the next international flight".
Like, whatever, pure adventure.
I could never do something like that.

That sounds like an awesome trip, though...

But I'd want to do a little more... like, 'next international flight going to a country that doesn't require you to have a visa ahead of time'.

You could really run yourself into trouble without a LITTLE bit of prep-work.

How did it turn out for your friend? Did it go okay?

Yes, he did have a lot of fun.
He needed to buy some clothes though, cause what he brought did not match the weather.
But he's the kind of crazy person who does crazy things and always meets other crazy people like himself to have fun with  He would not mind sleeping on a street - but usually makes new friends who allow him to sleep on a coach or on the floor or whatever.

Now I think about it, the only time I really went crazy with accommodation is when I moved. I booked the first ten days to give me time to discover the city and everything and find a more permanent place. I managed with not a single day to spare. That was stressful.

I'm ready to travel to another country, but I'm still waiting on that until next year, I hope. Seeing as the place I want to visit is Japan...and their whole border situation.
One thing I'm worried about is that I'm probably going to be going by myself, and Tokyo, I'm fine with Tokyo and their transportation, but getting to another city because I want to explore other places too that I barely explored the previous times I was there. (Last time I was on a group tour, but they didn't leave enough free time at the end of the day to explore because most places were closed by then)
Rubie! I'll answer ALL your questions. About transportations or anything really.
I'm also pretty sure the English signage has gotten better since you were there.

I'm an absolute wuss; I'd never be able to just get up one day and go on a trip further than my neighborhood cafe. xD

Like, I literally get anxious when someone invites me to go out and they don't have any plans (unless that was the plan, which it usually was not, LOL). Walking without a clue as to where exactly I'm going is stressful.
:mcargh:

Then I have to get back somehow.

That can be fun and terrifying both...

But I found someone eventually who agreed to sell me a bicycle, and then I found someone else who agreed to pay me the price of the bicycle if I took the long route back and went with him getting his goats to the butcher's (the person who had the truck he normally borrowed was somehow or other unavailable. My nuwari was pretty bad and so was his, so I am not 100% sure I got what he was saying about it)... and also agreed to drop the bicycle off at his cousin's place in the capital when I reached there.
So really it was more that he bought the bicycle through me indirectly, and I rented it from him in exchange for doing far more work than I thought it would be to move a bunch of ornery, mule-minded, wayward little sh*ts a mere thirty kilometres.

But it was a good trip anyhow.

Even if I did smell like goats for the next two days.

And my grasp of the language improved a LOT.
That just sounds absolutely wild! I could never, yet it must have been an amazing experience.

I feel the same Moon XD I would never be able to do that. I get lost very easily, even in places I'm somewhat familiar with - I mean, I was working in London 2 or 3 days a week for 3 years before the pandemic and if I got sent to a place which was just slightly outside the neighbourhoods I was familiar with, I would get lost and take twice as long to find the place XD
I also remember last time I went on a plane, I was with my husband (although it was before we were married). I remember just standing there in the airport and staring around in confusion because I couldn't even work out where to go to check in, he had to lead the way the whole time XD

@Kuuki: That would be super cool, but I'm not TOO terribly worried about it right now. I will once I start booking and planning my trip. The signs they had in English were really good when I went and the few times I needed help, we were able to find it really easily. But then again that was in Tokyo, which is why I'm worried about other places.

I hate airports. Airports are confusing. Too confusing. And too crowded. And you always feel you're getting late.

I'm not good at navigating myself in new places, but I'm good with a map in my hands.
I just wish airports had maps xD

Ooh, and each airport is different. Some do make sense but then suddenly you're at an airport that doesn't make any sense at all. Even if you've been to the airport before, you can still get lost.

But then, I get lost very easily. I could never be too impromptu because I have no sense of direction or the ability to read a map well!

Airports always seem vaguely hostile to me.
You've just arrived somewhere, and the whole point of that place you came to, is to make you go away again to somewhere else.
They are the opposite of welcoming.
And they are full of the atmosphere of suspicion, since that Twin Towers terrorist attack.
The terrorists absolutely won that round, because all over the world in airports since then everyone always views everyone else with doubt.
