I've now read the last two of the Alpha & Omega series before "Wild Sign" and am ready to start in on it! Just in time because my father came down for a visit and dropped it off already. :mclaugh:

I've been wiped out lately and haven't even picked up one of my normal, ongoing projects of reading...

I might officially give up on Bridge at Remagen, though. It's too frustrating.

Or maybe I should switch focus and try and find an old atlas, and create a large-scale map of the region on some butcher paper, and recreate the battle conditions. That might revive my interest.

Well I finished Ruin by John Gwynne. I am resisting the urge to jump right into the final book because he does such a good job at leaving the endings at a cliffhanger. It did make me cry a little at the end because the dog character died =/ I can read a book full of beheadings and murders, yet when a dog die I cry. I forced cuddles on one of my dogs who was not happy lol.

Oof, it's always awful when an animal character dies.
My grandfather had a collection of Jack London books and to mark the ones where the dog dies, he actually used those "yucky face" stickers you can get to warn kids about poison. I told him if he was going to do that, he needed to get a bunch of smiley-face stickers for the books where the dog lives, or just get rid of the books where the dog dies, but nope. He says he has to keep them, because otherwise he'll keep buying and rebuying them, "Oh, a Jack Lodon book I don't own!" but if he has them and has the warning sticker, he won't be fooled.
I had to laugh.
(I come from a whole family of avid readers)

I hate when the animal companion dies tbh. Like why you do that? It's always so emotional too.

I agree, that is a good idea. Did he ever just end up buying duplicates not remembering he owned the book already?

I'm having issues returning a book that came damaged. And sucks because I didn't realize I would need the packing slip or box to show proof it was damaged to begin with. I threw the packing slip away after opening and the box, I know I should have kept, but I was in a rush to get my recycling out last Friday as I saw the truck realized I forgot it was recycling day and grabbed whatever I saw was recycling I still needed to take out to the bin. And I was rereading their return policy that says NOTHING about needing those. And I would need to pay shipping back and a restocking fee (which would just be the price of the book). I must have not read that far. Plus I bought "insurance" on it that won't cover it because I told them that nothing else in the package was damaged. I think I'll just cut my loss and see if anyone I know wants it before either trading in for in store credit or donating it to the library if they want it.
The sad part is the damage ain't that bad, but I'm picky AF when the damage is to the cover. Because this isn't the first time I've received something bent or ripped, it was on the back of the cover so I let it slide. Thank you for listening to me rant. =]

That's really awful when they say, oh yes we allow returns! And then in the fine print it costs more to return the book than to write it off and buy a new one. :mccry:
I hope the damaged book finds a new home somewhere. I'm one of those people who really don't care about book condition so long as it's legible. Mostly. So I can be hard on my books, which leads me to be terrified to reread the ones I know will be difficult to replace in case something happens to it, which makes me wonder why I even have it if I can't bring myself to read it, but....
oh well.
There's always something else to grab and read, and then there's days I just don't care any longer, I want to read it!

Yeah already showed it a friend to see if they wanted it and they could care less if it was damaged lol. But like I am so picky with covers. I have no problem if I know I'm buying it damaged (like used books) or if it gets worn when I read it myself. Just annoyed with how I was getting the run around by the "insurance" company (literally a dollar so I just did it just in case) and then them needing to see everything. I told them I was keeping it and they now want pictures of the book and I had already gave it someone so it's really not a bother now.

Really helps I don't really travel with books anymore. I mostly just read at home now. I used to take a book with me all the time when I was in school.

And update in my reading challenge.

I've read another book about educational maths (this one related to sports) so I can count that section done
Amura wrote:My aim is to read this year at least 2 books in each of the following categories:
- books in Galician language done
- about feminism
- books related to science/maths done
- any of the books that have been sitting on my to-read list for way too long.
Now I picked up one book I had started to read a year ago or so (which I would count in the last section of my challenge, as well as the second).
It's a book on therapeutical feminism, which sounded like an interesting idea, but it has some practical excercices (first of all: you must keep a diary/log or something like that) which were not right for the moment in my life I was when I bought it (ie: too busy) so I'm gonna give it a second chance now.

And since I was talking to Li Li about Discworld I decided to catch up with my re-reading again (which would also count in the last section of my challenge, it's been a year since I stopped reading the series after all).
So I'm gonna switch from the other book to Feet of Clay, depending on the mood.
