I finished reading Child of the Grove (Wizard of the Grove #1) by Tanya Huff. I haven't been reading much lately, and I also wasn't crazy about it, so it took me a long time to finish. I liked it just barely enough to read the next book, so I started The Last Wizard (Wizard of the Grove #2). Luckily it's just the two books.

I hate it when I read the first book in a series and I'm not fully confident whether I want to follow reading it or not.
I'm not much into series.

I haven't read anything by C.S. Lewis
After all the fame The Chronicles of Narnia collected, I never watched the movies nor read the books...

Whaaat?! I have all the Narnia books, I got them from my mom, the full series. I liked it a lot, it's a fairytale vibe, if I remember correctly. One or two books were meh and wtf is happening and who is this, but otherwise I remember being into this series.
I should re-read it, tbh. Just like Harry Potter. If not more.
I never watched the movies either, I didn't want to have the books spoiled, I had a hunch the movies would be bad, the trailers put me off. Didn't want to risk it.

I never heard of either of them until the movies were made, and I had the feeling they might be a little juvenile for me.
Then they became widely popular and people kinda pushed you to read/watch them, which is the attitude which causes in me exactly the opposite reaction.
So I never actually gave them a try.

Aw, pity. Maybe someday you'll find the energy to give them a try. As an adult I already know things that piss me off in Harry Potter, like making Slytherin people seem like they're all bad and evil. Oh well, the damage is done, moving on

Now I'm quite tempted to read some books by an author who writes for younger audience.
I've heard several of my students mention they like how she writes, so I'm kinda curious.
Again, assuming her writing style is gonna be quite juvenile for me.

It might be nice to read something light :)

I often read light books.
The one I'm currently reading (from Discworld) is certainly humorous and light.
But still requires certain maturity to read.

My problem with books for teenagers is that they fall into cliches way too often, plots seem underdeveloped way too often, characters are Mary-Sues way too often...
I can read one every once in a blue moon, but that's it.


This probably not applies to Harry Potter nor to Chronicles of Narnia, but still the feeling remains.
