So.
Pandora should not open the box, because all the good in this world is in it.
But she disobbeys and all the good goes to the Olympus, back to the gods, and the mere mortals are not allowed any of it anymore. They must live a life of suffering.
But still one thing did not leave the box: it was Hope.
So although they must live such a life they still have hope.
That's in short the other version.
Persephone also has her own conflicting myths!
So she spends part of the year with Hades and part of the year with Demeter, which explains seasons.
But according to another myth both she and Aphrodita were crazy about Adonis, and they were fighting for him, so Zeus decided he would spend part of the year with each of the goddesses.
Which is a kinda similar story, but in the case she plays another role. Aaaaand, you can't accept both, because that would make little sense (even as myths go xD)

Oooh, I see! Thanks, Amura, I'd not heard that version of the Pandora story before.
Also I find it really entertaining how it's always translated as "box" in English but in other languages it's more often jar or jug or sometimes just container, and one which is more like chest/trunk.
It's fun to see how things evolve.
.... huh. I should totally try to learn some ancient greek and read these stories in the oldest formats available! That could be a lot of fun!

I suppose that's the most generic translation avalaible.
I mean, back then there were no boxes, but there were other containers for which nowadays the word may sound a bit too old-fashiones.
I think ancient Greek is not very easy.
Because, as happens with Latin, there are many different styles used thru the years so probably there is not one ancient Greek but several!

True... let's see, probably most of the stories would be from learning Attic Greek, right?

oh i forgot about Helios lol.
theres also the tradition of burying the dead with gold coins over their eyes so that when they get to the underworld, they can pay Charon to ferry them across the river styx. and then there's the Achilles heel, where Achille's mother dipped him in the river styx, with the exception of his heel where she was holding him, and it became the weakest point of his body.

And all those stories about this girl or that running away from an amorous god and getting turned into trees or flowers, to explain the existence of various kinds of trees and flowers.
And of course Narcissus for the narcissus flower.
And all the stories about the constellations explaining the existence of various stars and constellations.
Poor Niobe, her story always seemed awful.
Honestly the more I think about it, the more most of these stories are tragedies!

Hi Altaira! Any luck?
Yeah, they did like tragedies indeed!
Even their comedies were mostly tragic if you think about it.
