YEAH THAT ONE. He’s my mom’s cousin, from her aunt’s side, so my grandaunt. I was doing some family tree searching and he’s technically my first cousin once removed. His kids would technically be my second cousins.

Yeahh i dunno lool, personally i just call them by the chinese term for them…xD;; i don’t bother with all this “removed” stuff lol. XD

Here we use an expression such as "cousin by blood" and all the rest are just "cousins".
For example, a second cousin once removed we just call him a cousin.
That's why we have soooooo many cousins xD

Oh i suppose that’s something too. Although, really, with cousins in my generation, i either call them by name or, if they’re older, i call them “older sister/brother”. Its called “biao jie/biao ge”….biao jie is the older female cousin, biao ge is the older male cousin.

Cousin is just a label after all.

I remember this friend of mine started dating a guy.
We met once and started talking "oh, where are you from? ah, my mom's family is from there..." until we realized we were cousin.
His father and my mother were second cousins I think, they knew each other well, so we probably had met as kids - but none remembered the other at all!


And my brother has a cousin who is not my cousin xD

Yeah its just a label. I don’t really bother with the english equivalents because i’ve always only known them by their chinese ones. XD like my older cousins, if i directly translate them, ge and jie mean older brother and older sister. XD

I don't talk to my cousins (or family other than when my aunts force me to) so I don't pay attention to the cousin thing... they're just more strangers to me o3o
