It's about dreams, their meanings and such. It starts with some psychological theories throughout history and scientific knowledge, then there's some cultural and religious context. For now I'm stuck at the scientific part. But I'm glad it's not all mumbo jumbo, the author at least tried to get all the sides of the story right.

Wow, that seems complex.
I like well-researched books, and that sounds like one.

That does sound interesting!

I'm curious if it will go into the history of fortune-telling through dreams. I know a lot of cultures have traditionally done that, with specific symbols foretelling specific events or types of omens or whatever, but I don't know the details at all... it could be a lot of fun to read about that!

One of the requirements for my house was a room to make into a little library, which I did. And then I learned I don't nearly have as many books as I originally thought I had.

That sounds like a very interesting read. I always found dreams interesting. Especially the ones people have that seem to predict the future.

I'm pretty sure most of the book will be about the fortune telling stuff. Or esoterism in general. The title is "Dreams. What can they tell us?" and it's written by a person well known in the esoteric circles.

Well, that's probably the aspect I would find less interesting xD

I've always though (just my opinion) that fortune telling has much more to do with some people special qualities (call it intuition, call it sixth sense, call it as you wish) than with anything else.
People with those qualities may tell you a lot using tarot cards, or tea leaves, or dreams. But imho it's just because they have that special something.

And any esoteric would argue with that :mcwink: It's mostly believed that everybody has that sixth sense, most just don't bother to exercise it. We all have intuition, some just don't listen to it. Although some do get born with hightened sixth sense.
I generally don't really believe much in fortune telling as in predicting the future. For me it's more of a here, now, in current circumstances. Anything from here can be changed. Mostly.

I find that all fascinating for the sociology aspects -what it tells about the cultures (or subcultures) that follow the traditions.
People are endlessly diverse; one culture will find a dream of owls a death-omen and another will find a dream of owls to be an omen of an unexpected (fortunate) wind-fall...
It's intriguing!

I like working backwards from everyday stuff to see what it can tell you.

Like looking at traditional footwear -you can deduce a lot about the climate that spawned each style, and then you think about what common needs the people living there would have, and you find it incorporated into their choices constrained by the geography/climate, and it's just interesting!
