Oooh, my ex-brother-in-law was a BC native, we used to go visit his family over there sometimes. GORGEOUS hiking! We stumbled onto a mushroom festival once too, which was a blast (did not know about it in advance; total coincidence).

Natsuyuki: she was also taking a chemistry course. About a dozen of us students took it on as a challenge but we only got it all correct a double handful of times; I won often enough to move up, which was actually useful because I ended up testing out of chemistry at a high enough level to get college credit for chemistry before I even went to highschool. Had a whole extra class spot for another elective because it filled the graduation requirements early.
It was technically way above our level; she was teaching introductory, basic stuff, and she was taking graduate course stuff.
But who cared?
Nothing wrong with a challenge, and by putting enough time into it, I think there were four of us just in my class alone that got through multiple years' worth of science credit in a single year. I don't know how many there were if you added all her classes together...

Although I think by the end of the year there were a number of kids who started copying it down and then just pretending to correct it as a "full marks" and betting on her getting all the problems right.... I don't recall how she addressed that issue.

@ Hotarla: I like rain and snow... In small, moderate amounts /D;;; which is sad cuz I seem to only be experiencing the extremes xD

@Li Li: that is incredibly impressive that you were able to do that!!! I am terrible at chemistry myself, I passed the mandatory chem unit in high school and never took it again >_<
I do wonder how your school's system worked that your teacher was able to conduct such a personalized system to give you guys extra course credits? From how things are where I live, you have to go through quite a lot of logistics with the school's counselor to alter your courses and credits.

I don't think she *could* do something like that now; they were passing legislation just before I graduated which regulated things a lot more.
But I'm old enough, I went through the school system when there was far more leeway for teachers and school systems to design lessons and courses.

What I know about Li li's age: she used typewriters and witnessed school legislation standardizing credit regulations... O.O

... How are your joints? XD (jk)

My school education was standardised (and shitty too) but college was amazing because the professors took our mid-semester feedback and ideas on board and altered courses. And when the third-year students protested that end-of-the-year assessments are a dogpile (this is when I was in second year), the professors changed the way assessments were distributed. So when I came to third year I was able to graduate without suffering the dogpile.

That's harder, to my mind. That's an ongoing, you have to live with it forever thing, instead of one single moment that's the exception instead of the rule.

BC is a nice place to visit in the summer! It's not too hot and the nature scene is great /o/

I am so envious of all your stories of changing the school system! I haven't experienced anything like that (though could that mean I've unknowingly benefitted from previous revolutions?) XD
Throughout my uni most courses are pretty standard and unproblematic. A small handful of profs were a biiit crazy and hard to please but thats about it :mcheh:

I want to travel so badly... But no time... QAQ
It'd be nice to take a short vacation somewhere within the province though. I really want to go to Kelowna to pick cherries this summer =w=

Side note: This week's FC raffle will take place next Tuesday instead of Sunday!
The reason being I will be out on Sunday and not return until Tuesday :mcheh:
(Going out to play on the long weekeeeeend~~~)
