Cliffhangers are great when you know there's more coming
Not so much when the last update was back in like 2005 and you find out that it's cuz the author died or something

Yeah. Those are the worse. And there’s really nothing you can do about them. D:

As a general rule, I dislike cliffhangers.
Yeah, of course, they leave you wanting more.
But a season that ends wrapping everything nicely, and it still leaves me wanting for more - more adventures, which start from that point, with the same character or sometimes with other characters.
I don't know, I think making a series without HUGE cliffhangers is more elegant...

Cliffhangers are meant to entice a person to come back the next book/season, so at least finding one and knowing you have more to follow cuz it's finished is easy to deal with

Well if a series can be ended without cliffhangers yet also makes you want to continue watching or waiting for a second season, now THAT’S considered a good series. Like they don’t have to rely on something like a cliffhanger to bring you back.

That's exactly my thought.

And I don't really mind having some unfinished subplot. At all.
Just not huge cliffhangers, which mean the story is never ever resolved - and that you risk being canceled without a proper end!

There are series that even have unrelated plots and you still watch them because you know you like the series overal style or mood or whatever.
Fargo or True Detective come to my mind.

Cliffhangers on incomplete fanfics or 1-season animes (or even movies, looking at you ALITA) are SO. SCARY., because you never know if the author is just gonna forget it at some point or if the anime is gonna be dropped, lose funding, what have you.. It's why I try so hard to only read complete stories, because the pain is unbearable. Harder to do with anime because interesting shows are interesting shows, lol.

And I generally love when people reboot their own stories (when they never completed the original, at least), though sometimes they've made me sad because the reboot just dropped all the plot-points I liked and everything else was just "meh". :mccry: Like, the writing is better, but suddenly I'm not as invested, lol.

Oh. Yeah i knowww. I know there’s a few fanfics that are unfinished and like, on a03, you can see, like oh its only 2/3 chapters so wheres the third? And then you wonder if the author has stopped writing or something and then they just come back and write an entire new fanfic and i’m like “pleaseeee, i want to know how that other fanfic ends, please put me out of my misery and write that last chapter!”

XD;; like i know i can’t force people to write but gosh, not knowing the end of something just killlllls me.
