@Dream: I feel you, maybe that's why I subconsciously held off any practice. I did think about my mental state not being the greatest, on many occasions for the past few months. It definitely made me hold back from getting back into tarot. Plus now covid. I keep postponing :mcheh: But I wouldn't want to attract something unhelpful or even malicious. I'd rather be safe than sorry.

@Hot: I used to go to church for my mom's and grandma's sake, haha. I just disagreed with the institution of the church and eventually stopped attending altogether. Made me feel so free :mcheh: I hope you don't feel like you're wasting time at the temple when you go? A few times a year isn't as annoying as every Sunday and then some, but I thought I'd ask XD

@PastelWitch: I wouldn't say I'm religious either, spiritual is a better word. I don't really follow any religion, just my gut :mclaugh: I believe in some spirits, so I have faith in the supernatural but it's definitely not a religion.

i've been to church maybe like..........once? twice? cuz sometimes my aunt from america would visit and she would go to mass on Sundays. i remember listening and kneeling and whatnot at the pews. but yeah, everything just kinda went through one ear and out the next. XD;;

I'm not religious, I'm spiritual. I don't like organised religion or being told what to do, and I prefer to find what works for me.

I keep my practice simple. One card draw in the morning, and an offering to my goddess. The other stuff isn't regular and happens when it happens (when I'm feeling it, when I have the energy for it) like devotional poetry. Instead of aligning to moon phases and astrology, I align to my own energy levels and mental health, as that works best for me. I don't have an altar because my family doesn't know about my spirituality and I'd like to keep it that way. (They're practicising Hindus and they assume I am too, but I'm not.)

As much as I understand honouring planetary and seasonal energies, I believe we must honour ourselves first and foremost. :qh:

Yeah this is something that is done out of enjoyment of the process, not of a result. Like I'm not going to get enlightened after doing a few rituals or card readings. So if it sounds like work then it's probably not for you! Plus, the sense of spiritual-sensual wonderment that I experience as spiritual connection isn't something that can be forced.

It's like, when my family had me offer food to their gods, I felt nothing. When I make offerings to my goddess I feel spiritual connection. My family would like me to feel religious about their gods, but such things can't be forced; and there was a time when my spirituality was only card work and didn't involve deity at all. I didn't try to force fit deity into my practice at the time. It just happened, later, when it did fit.

And my spirituality wasn't any lesser when it was just card work and I didn't believe in deity. Nor is it superior now that I do work with deity. The nice thing of spirituality is that it allows for everyone to have an individual spiritual path, and honour whatever that looks like for them, unlike the rigidity of religion where you have to do it the way others do it.

I like mostly empty religious buildings because they're peaceful. I don't prefer to visit them during times of worship.

Yeah like I grew up going to Buddhist temples and while I’m not Buddhist, I like going to the temples. And since we don’t really go to temple frequently, it’s like a novelty.

I would never go to a church if it was in session (apart from the few times my aunt kinda dragged us to one lol). I just like admiring churches in a more artistic fashion. Stained glass windows, statues and effigies or whatnot, sculptures, architecture…XD that kinda stuff.

Yeah, I like traditional temple architecture, when it's just plain, carved stone. Modern temples here are painted and I don't like those. Aesthetically, I don't like most modern architecture :mcheh:
