i'm glad ive never witnessed one. like......ive heard of them touching down, even some in other cities here. but like.....not here.

Yeah, constantly having to worry about your friends in town every time a tornado goes around, it makes me glad we live in an age with instant communication.
Imagine living in a tornado-prone region a hundred years ago!

Yeah that would be scary. And tornadoes aren’t the only natural disasters. Would Pompeii had happened if they had more advanced warning and technology?

My cynical side wants to say, 'yes, absolutely,' but you're probably right, there would be warning.
The question is, would people have believed it in time to properly evacuate?

Also, I don't know if Vesuvius had any prior mini-eruptions or if it was just smaller quakes until a sudden massive explosion of gas and lava...
When scientists announce a doom-and-gloom prediction, mostly people don't want to believe it until a few minor tragedies have happened. I mean, look at the stuff going on no, right?
So, maybe it would still have happened. If the signs were there for people with scientific minds to see but not for the layperson to see, it might still have been a tragedy.

well i think that even if there were warning and some people were still skeptic, i would hope that some people would believe it and there would be less lives lost. but you know, that's just my hope. i know how backwards it was back in those days. like thinking that the world was flat, or that everything revolved around earth.

Yeah.
Even if everyone did believe, and want to leave, the transportation options weren't the fastest or most efficient, either.
Loading up a sail-age ship and taking off was not a fast thing.
There's only so many ox-carts fit on a roman-concrete road.
And they only go so fast.
So, mostly, I'm just grateful that I live in the current time period!

yup, sure theres still some pros and cons in our current world, its probably still many times better than them good old days. at least we know that if we continue walking in a straight line, we won't fall off the face of the earth lol. xD

I remember one of my family Elders who was a chemist used to joke about Flat-Earthers:
"Eh? They're right though! The Earth's definitely flat, it's why cola sells so well!"

Because of course, he thinks everyone will instantly catch the reference to flat vs fizzy water...

It was a terrible joke, and the thing is we always used to laugh anyhow because he was just so CUTE when he'd grin at us in this child-like glee

looooool that joke definitely went right over my head. XD if you hadn't explained afterwards, i would still be sitting here looking confused. lol

Ha ha ha, you aren't alone, I had to have it explained to me the first time too. But he had a memory issue at the end so he'd repeat jokes, and I had time to learn it
