After Pokemon Go came out, I kept waiting for things like phone apps where, instead of seeing floating pokemon through the camera, you'd see projected paint-by-numbers and could do murals on your own walls at home...

You mean augmented reality? I haven't seen what you're talking about specifically but I've seen ads for hardware stores using augmented reality for similar

When it was initially released I tried it but 1) it didn't work ony phone and I had to use my mom's and 2) there weren't many spawns
Then I forgot about the game entirely until my nephew wanted to start playing and needed an adult to be with him. The game is a lot more fun now that we play together and there are definitely more spawns and stops in my area now then there were back then.
