Ohh yes, definitely play the gender card here hehe. I'm glad there's been this emphasis on gender equalising male dominated industries. I'm sure you'll have companies fighting to have such a bright spark on their team :mcsquee: . How do you apply for industrial training? Does the uni help out with that at all or is it all on your own?

I'm sure you looked fierce nonetheless. (Like a fierce cat). Ethanol is a perfect solvent to dissolve permanent marker hehe. Oh my glob, I'm the same with the yelling at/talking to inanimate objects when stressed. Sometimes I mutter to my cells (e.g."Please be good cells and die when I give you this drug...") while running stressful experiments... and got caught once by a coworker. I tried to say I was talking through the protocol but their suspicious look confirmed the worst. :mcomg: But yeah, it's not harming anyone or yourself so whatever. We all need a way to destress.

Were you initially interested in being a psychologist/psychiatrist? Or do research?

I'll make you comfy. :mcargh: Mwahahaha. -squishes you into a ball and sticks feathers all over you-

Ooh that's good that you've moved on and have someone now. Canberra? Man how's long distance working for you? I could never do it. I'd be so insecure about them and imagine them cheating on me all the time. D;
Ugh. Your ex sounds more and more... shallow. Immature? I'm glad you two aren't together anymore. Although it sucks you're still affected by it. Hopefully time will help you heal. How long has it been since you two broke up?

Ahh well that's good. So the degree is reasonably structured. I've heard that UNSW is one of the best places to study engineering in Sydney... I guess this shows why.

It was organised by our faculty in the sense that they gave us a list of supervisors and projects that were available. Problem was, there were like 10 projects and 100's of students, around 50 of which were advanced stream. I don't think a single normal stream student had the opportunity to get summer work experience. I was super lucky and managed to nab two, one in first year and one in second. I would have taken a third one had I not been advised to take a break by my mentors. :mcheh: But yeah, those two lost summers were so worth it. Getting a supervisor for Honours was a piece of cake, as was getting the job I'm doing now. I just wish these opportunities were available to more students, and didn't just give advanced students even more of a leg-up than they already have. :/

:< Poor Po. Perhaps you could go with a close friend? It might be good to have someone to talk to and distract from the awkwardness until it passes. Think about all the fun you'll have in the society~

My cousin gave me a seed of wisdom a few years ago that I've always kept close to my heart: "20 years from now, you'll regret more the things you DIDN'T do than the things you DID do. So take risks, get out of your comfort zone, and make sure you don't ever regret NOT doing something." <-- not exact quote, but something along those lines. I try my best to live by that philosophy - but I understand it can be hard and I'll admit I haven't always followed it. And truth is, I DO regret stuff I didn't do... e.g. not joining all those Revues. :mcsweat:
dreamsinger wrote:Welcome, Mrow! I hope you like it here.
Are either of you (or anyone else who feels like joining in) extroverts? (Technically it's "extraverts" but I'm not swapping to that.) I am an extrovert, and according to the Meyers-Brigg's test I'm an ENFP. My twin, Arrowdancer, is one, too. But we are a little different temperamentally. I feel like people think we're not. :(
Hi Dreamsinger! Thanks for the welcome~ I am loving it here so far. Everyone is so friendly and not elitist and it's awesome. :mccool:

I wasn't aware extrovert was spelt "extravert". You learn something new every day... I guess I count as an extrovert - but only if I'm confident I've got nothing to lose or the crowd is reasonably friendly.

Haha I took that test a loooong time ago and I can't remember what I was anymore. I heard that you can change over time if you were to take the test every few years. Interesting. I do remember that I was classed as an extrovert by it though.

The faculty doesn't help with industrial training at all. We have to organise it ourselves, although it helps greatly if you are close to phd students or if you're an active member of an engineering society. They recently changed the rules such that you cannot claim more than 20 days of training before 3rd year. It's already hard enough as it is to get 1 company to accept you for 60 days >>
I'll probably finish this semester and start resume spamming in the break and see what I can do in the upcoming summer.

I didn't know that. Ethanol reminds me of all those chemistry labs I had to be in in high school and 1st year. We produced ethanol and distilled it once and the entire room smelt like a mixture of bready beer.
I've been caught as well! ;-; I sometimes ask myself questions and proceed to answer them out loud. Then I laugh. It's so embarrassing. Usually I pretend nothing happened when I'm caught. "I'm not crazy, you are."
>>
<<

I was initially interested in working as a clinical psychologist and maybe taking post grad medicine to work towards psychiatry. I was torn between psychology and engineering after the HSC. Too bad I picked the wrong one as my first option. I didn't think I would get in b. psyc (with honours) because the course ATAR was pretty high and engineering usually sits low 90s. My thought process was, "if I don't get into psych, so be it. Mech eng would be fun anyway."

-eats the feathers-

Long distance sucks. We're not an official couple. We're like borderline seeing each other or just friends. We don't know ._. He's graduating this year and he doesn't know where he's moving. It could be Sydney, he could be staying in Canberra. He could even be going back to Scotland. Currently, it looks like it might be another 6 months in Canberra. We were supposed to move on from each other ages ago but we're still in this situation :qhehe:

My ex is just not very good with understanding people on an emotional level. He's indecisive and he's a lonely person. Since December 2013. So a while now.

UNSW is good for graduates and post grads but it's terribly disorganised for undergrads. Depends which faculty though. Well, it's mostly prestige but they're affiliated with a lot of great businesses and you can land a good job afterwards. Electrical engineering is the best faculty. Mech eng is by far the worse. At first there were excuses like, "our central office building is currently under renovation." No, Kane Murdoch is just a d*ck head with attitude problems.

B-b-but all my close friends are not engineers ;-; And the friends I have in engineering are mutual friends with my ex or they've already graduated.
One day I'll rake up the confidence to join. I'm just not ready yet x_x

It's technically not too late to join revue if you have time. You can do tech but it might be different for Usyd. I'm not too sure. We have a lot of people who have already graduated or moved on to other degrees in alternate unis/colleges and they're still around working on projects.

Have you done any acting, singing or dancing before? c:

I can't believe it's going to be raining again through the rest of the week ;-;

@Dream:
Sent you the kanzashi. c:

Thank you! I know I deserve better. I'm too gorgeous for him any way -hair flick- (lol, jks). We were too similar to be a couple in terms of emotional incompetency :qhehe: What are feels and how do I communicate them?

I've taken those before. My current partner loves them. He's very much the opposite of me. I'm mostly an introvert. I don't remember what the other letters were. I didn't know arrow was your twin o: I thought you were just regular siblings. Are you identical or fraternal twins?

edit: I got bored and did it
I'm pretty sure it's the same as always :qhehe:

ISTJ

You have distinct preference of Introversion over Extraversion (67%)
You have slight preference of Sensing over Intuition (12%)
You have moderate preference of Thinking over Feeling (38%)
You have moderate preference of Judging over Perceiving (44%)

Balls. In hindsight, it's probably a semi-good thing that they make you do it yourself. You're bound to learn these skills at some point, right? I'm sure you'll easily find a company to take you. o uo You come across as a very smart cookie. Good luck nonetheless. And let me know how you go~

Hehehe. Yes ethanol smells delicious. In my lab, we have to sign off every time we take some ethanol - we even have to write down exactly how much we took, and what we're using it for. It's like they think we'll steal it and make alcoholic drinks out of it... I don't know where they get that idea. :mcheh:

Hahaha the old "you're the crazy one" trick. Does it usually work for you? Alas, I'm very bad at using it. The delay is too long between being caught and trying to turn the tables on the person who caught me.

Hm. It is a pity, but I don't think it was the wrong choice per se. At least you know for SURE now that you don't want to do psychology. Imagine finishing a mech eng degree semi-happy with your results but still wondering what would have happened if you had done psych instead. Plus I bet you've acquired some useful life skills from doing most of a psych degree.

D; -stares despairingly at the five featherless ducks running around us in panic- I plucked those ducks for nothing.

Hm sounds like one of those "wait-and-see" relationships. Agonising, but there's not much you can do without possibly regretting a decision. What degree is he graduating from? =.= I feel that choosing between Canberra and Sydney is a no-brainer. Nothing happens in Canberra. It's a hole. Yes, it's got ANU, Questacon and Parliament house, but other than those there's like nothing to do. Bleh. Sydney's where the actions at.

Well for his sake, I hope your ex works things out. :S I'm glad you're no longer in this though.

Hahaha is Kane Murdoch Dean of Engineering or something? Poor mech eng peeps. At least you get the prestige? That should help with getting industrial training, right?

Bah. >:U I hate that the only reason you're not ready to go is your ex. Quite the unfortunate situation. But it is what it is. Hope that confidence accumulates soon~

I've never done much theatre before at all. I have done theatresports for a brief period though, and that was heaps of fun. I enjoyed coming up with ideas rather than the actual acting/singing though. So if I ever join a revue I'd want to be either part of the directing or the script/joke writing process. I found out recently that with Med and Science revue at least, the first years are encouraged to do the bulk of it, and some more experienced/older students hang around to help guide them. So I think it might be too late for me for these revues. n_n; Howeverrrrr, I am definitely on the lookout for future opportunities. There are many competitions for postgrad students to present their data in as creative a way as possible. If I end up doing a PhD I may enter those comps. They look super fun.

I knowwww. Mum woke me up at 6 am this morning to help her do all the laundry in preparation for the uber wet week. e____e; Did you end up getting your oroton umbrella fixed?

If I was a cookie people would eat me ;-;
I'm an average cookie. Like a subway cookie. I'll make you fat and I'm filled with sugar *U*
Mmmm, subway cookies.

Why would you need to take ethanol out of the lab? o: Maybe pure ethanol is expensive. I can see people trying to mixing it with regular drinks haha.

I don't think it works at all. I just act normal when I'm caught and whether or not they believe what they were seeing/hearing is purely up to them. If you show you're unfazed when caught, maybe they'll won't think much of it.

I try not to think about it too much. My biggest issue with it is that I delayed my graduation. I want out already. This is my 4th year in uni and I have about 2-3 more years to go, depending on the pace at which I take my units. ;-; I want to make dosh, travel and have a reason to be independent. Maybe move overseas for work. I need a change of environment to keep me happy.

I did learn some things in psych, like self diagnosis. Lol. I took an in-depth course on scientific method which was fun and dull at the same time.

You can now proceed to eat the ducks ouod

He's graduating from an archaeology degree with a minor in physics. Hahaha. Best degree ever. All his friends are in Canberra. I would hate to pull him away from them plus he would expect me to move out with him if he does start working here. My parents would never allow that. My wallet does not allow it either. :qhehe: At least not yet.

Canberra is a hole but it's nice. It's a change from the bustling and hustling Sydney life. I rather like it. Maybe I could finally get a motorbike if I lived there myself. Could get myself a yacht and join the sailing club. lol.

I believe Kane is the student services co-ordinator but he's very arrogant and uncooperative. He's an absolute nightmare for students to deal with.

I hate it too ;-; In my head I can do but when I see him in person he makes me really angry and then I get the urge to touch his hair. Probably not a good thing to do to your ex.

At UNSW they hold scripts block where you come in and write scripts with everyone. Usually cast itself is directed towards first years or people new to revue and the nitty gritty of production is open to anyone who'll help. You never know till you ask them! I'm not very creative in turns of writing scripts or being a choreography. However, if you give me a dance choreo I will love and dance it well in my own style. I find a lot of choreos appreciate what I do with their creations and it makes me happy.

Nope. I've been too lazy this week to head out to Pitt St. I'll probably get it done on Friday D: I have to go to uni for a 1hr test so I may as well treat myself to some shopping. Huehue. I hate heading out into the CBD for 1 reason so I'm trying to see if I can rack up more reasons to go, or kidnap a friend.

Subway cookies are dangerously addictive. Are you the chocolate one with white chocolate chips? That's my favourite one. That and the macadamia nut one mmmmm. >w< What's your favourite?

Yeppp, absolute ethanol can get pretty expensive. And it's VERY flammable, so has tight restrictions. I had to order 7L of formamide once, and had to provide my driver's licence and prove that I wasn't a terrorist wanting to make a bomb and just a humble scientist about to do a hell of a lot of fluorescence microscopy. >> Bureaucracy can be a pain.

Well engineers are pretty sought after all over the world so you shouldn't have difficulty getting a job overseas o wo. And don't worry about the extra 2-3 years. They'll fly by and in 10 years time, they'll feel very insignificant. The good thing is that you still have summer holidays! So you can work/travel during those, right? :mcsquee:

Hahaha self-diagnosis. A lot of my friends are studying medicine now and are doing the same thing. One was CONVINCED he had meningitis and was yelling to get a lumbar puncture... apparently he had to be led to a quiet corner and calmed down. Turns out it was just a bad headache brought on by stress and lack of sleep. Sometimes I wonder if I should have gone for med. Then I hear about those stories and am quite glad I didn't. :mcheh:

An archaeology degree? Awesome. My sister wants to do the exact same degree, only at Melb Uni. I have a question though - what career path does he intend to take using this degree? My parents and I are concerned that my sister's going to have very limited job opportunities.

Expect? How dare he expect you to do anything >:U. You'd move out there because you wanted to, right? >> I'm sure if you found work in Canberra your parents can't complain. We all have to break away at some point, and doing it for a boy is not that bad an idea IMO. Even if you end up separating at least you learnt how to be independent etc.

Ok yachts are cool. If that ever happens, can I ride on it? :mccool:

...ironic that a student services co-ordinator is a nightmare for students. Who hires these people. Seriously.

:< hopefully everything will sort itself out with time. Or maybe this is one of those things that are like ripping off a bandaid. The first meeting will be awkward and difficult but subsequent ones might be easier?

Hm, maybe I'll look into it~ I really have no idea how these things work. ^^;

Do you go through the city to get to UNSW at all? Or are you planning on boycotting classes for the near future haha. Kidnapping a friend seems like a foolproof plan though. Provided the kidnap is successful, of course.

I love putting them in the microwave and they're all soft and goopy. As they cool you get this really dry crunchy texture. *U*
I always get the raspberry and cheesecake one. I think it's the ultimate diabetus.

How does one prove they're not a terrorist? :qwhee: Do you wear a face mask whilst working? You must work with smelly volatile stuff.

Yes, I can travel and work during the 3 month breaks. I should enjoy those whilst they last :qhehe:. Working a 9-5 job doesn't sound appealing. At least I hope work will be dynamic and offer lots of opportunities around the globe.
Is this your first year out of uni and working?

Umm, there isn't really. There's practically no job opportunities in Australia but I hear they're uncovering more of the terracotta soldiers in China. Even then that's a rare opportunity you're unlikely to get. That's all I know of so he's actually not going to end up working in that field. He was thinking Woolies manager or more travelling. I asked and he said, "Idk :c." My poor bubba.

Well I would want to move in with him but I think it'll be nicer if we didn't c: Otherwise, I would forget how to be independent from him. I feel like living together would make it harder for 7am surprises at his door ;u;

Surrreee. I don't even like water D:

Subsequent encounters have definitely been easier but I feel like things aren't changing as much as I'd like them too especially since I've yet to see him together with his new gf. That would suck.

I take buses from Central but I need to be in Town Hall today. Time to get everything done, including my eyebrows. Rainy days really suck the life out of me. I got home and flopped into bed at 7am and napped ;_;

I have an exam today as well.

We actually don't know. The DNA test at birth was inconclusive and we haven't taken it again. My mom thinks we're mirror image twins, I don't really know what that means though.
Thanks for the item! :D
Since it's the last day and I can't get all the Sakura flowers I need before reset, could I ask for the Spring '15 Paravent Ivory?
You've been super helpful for me to getting the items! :qh: Thanks so much. ^^
Edit: Turns out it's not the last one, but I think I'll still need it.

Ohh I am so trying that with my Subway cookies next time. :mcsquee:

I'm not sure. I suppose by writing in big letters "I'M USING IT FOR CANCER RESEARCH" and signing it is enough. As well as proof that you're using official grant money to purchase and use this reagent for medical research.

Haha we do work with some pretty dangerous chemicals, but usually in small quantities. I make reagents for my lab to use sometimes, and that involves handling heaps at a time so I do have to wear a mask and goggles along with my gloves and labcoat. I'm usually not bothered by it though. The only dangerous thing I actually do worry about is our radioactive chemicals. ^^;

One of my friends took a semester off and went to Europe where he worked odd jobs as he travelled around the different countries. I'm not sure if 3 months is enough to do that but if it is, it might be an idea for you. :mccute: Yes this is my very first year out of uni and working full time. I have worked since I was 15, although only in retail. :P Do you have a casual job at the moment?

Woolies manager haha. That reminds me of a friend of mine who actually IS a woolies manager right now. He hates it but at the same time doesn't want to leave because he's worked there since he was 16 and doesn't want to give up so much power. Hm... I don't know if I should show this to my sister. She might just retaliate and yell at me in her angsty teenager way that I don't understand her passion. >__>; I just want her to have the best shot at a good life as possible. But I get where she's coming from... I was a teenager not long ago either o wo. Do you have any siblings?

Haha aww that's cute. 7 am surprises?! Do you catch the greyhound or something? How do you get to Canberra at 7 am from Sydney? O_O Am I missing something.

Well. Not liking water sure is inconvenient when you live on an island :mcheh: . That's ok, if we capsize I'll always save you. :mcsquee:

Yeah, it's natural that you'd be uncomfortable around his new gf. I suppose having a friend be around would be best - just as moral support. But you did mention you don't have many engineering friends that are not already friends with your ex...

Got home at 7am?! Where were you coming from? -in a world of confusion- @__@

Hope your exam went well bubbles~~

@Dream: Maybe she means identical twins, as in you guys shared the same zygote?
You two would look very very alike with differences due to environmental reasons only c:

No problem, sent you the paravent.

@Spica: Sent it.

@Mrow:
Don't put them in for too long. Usually 15 secs is sufficient such that your chocolate doesn't just melt all over the plate.

How do you make reagents? Ohhhhhh, which radioactive substances have you dealt with? Lab coats are awesome. It's one thing I loved about chem. I once did a dance routine in a lab coat to the ghost busters theme song. It was great!

No, I don't have a casual job but I really want one. I've been trying to get a job since March but I've been getting no calls back and I received a group interview on the day of an exam so I couldn't go :qhehe:
Job hunting is stressful and I have an odd collection of work experience :s
I think it deters employees.

Wait, how old is your sister? Isn't there something she will like studying and be more likely to land a job afterwards? :qhehe:
Archaeology is fun but you're not going to be able to do anything with it. Maybe if you take major ancient history + teaching you can become a teacher? I have a little brother. He's studying in a hotel school and he's being lazy >>

I caught greyhound once and I hated it. Murrays is definitely better. Have you ever been to Canberra? I used to do that with my ex bf. I'll be at Randwick at 7am to wake him up and he'd just use me as a body pillow. So I'd like there as he half sleepily hugged me like "8| I am one with my inner log."

I've been capsized once in muddy waters. It was disgusting ;-; Do you have funny water stories? Once I went to the beach and accidentally got out too far. I couldn't get back to shore so my friend freestyle-pushed me back. Hahah. Also joined a swimming carnival 50m race in high school, jumped in, proceeded to drown, got saved by my PE teacher in front of the entire school.

Yesterday I came back from uni. I went to a uni society social event today. I'm so exhausted. I came back from uni, changed and travelled back to king st wharf. My little feeties hurt ;-; It kind of sucked because I nearly lost my voice trying to talk to people.

My exam went OK ;-;
I go cry now ;-;
