I'm not entirely sure how it differs from a friendship, either, but I still haven't figured out whether I'm aromantic or not, or even what that actually means. Shrug. I kind of plan to write the viewpoint character as maybe asexual, and her two love interests as not, so at least to them it will be different from a friendship.
I would write about that, but I also love That Messy Drama, and it's hard to write That Messy Drama when everyone is friends with cats. When people have Big Romantic Feelings it's easy to bring in That Messy Drama.
